California approves Prop 64, legalizing recreational marijuana

Whoa, duuude!

Voters on Tuesday approved Proposition 64, which would make California the most populous state in the nation to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.

The approval of the ballot measure, which led in recent polls, would create the largest market for marijuana products in the U.S. It comes six years after California voters narrowly rejected a similar measure. Activists said passage would be an important moment in a fight for marijuana legalization across the U.S.

“Proposition 64 will allow California to take its rightful place as the center of cannabis innovation, research and development,” said Nate Bradley, executive director of the California Cannabis Industry Assn.

The initiative allows Californians who are 21 and older to possess, transport and buy up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and to use it for recreational purposes. That expands the law that 20 years ago legalized marijuana for medical use in California.

The prop was voted in by about 55% as 44%voted against. It is another step in a state by state effort, that will hopefully result in the end of the war against a flower! Not only will it help to keep innocent non-criminals from becoming criminals in the eyes of lawmakers, but will also save law enforcement resources that need to be used to fight actual real crime, and will also generate billions in tax money to help our state.

With the political climate of the country now about to change dramatically with a trump presidency,I hope the will of the people will continue to be respected at the federal level in this matter. The fact remains, this issue needs to be addressed and changed at the federal level.Unfortunatly with a Trump presidency and the religious right extremists about to take control, there is probably little to no hope of that.
