Nevada GOP chair outraged that ‘certain people’ got to vote

It’s standard practice to keep polls open if you’re on line at closing time. This was lost on the Nevada Republican Chair.

Michael McDonald, the chair of the Nevada Republican Party, complained at a rally on Saturday that “certain people” had the opportunity to vote. According to CNN, McDonald “was referring to a polling location in Clark County, which is 30% Hispanic and the county in which Las Vegas is located.”

…In the video, McDonald complains that “in Clark County, they kept a poll open ’til 10 o’clock at night so a certain group could vote,” even though “the polls are supposed to close at 7.” It is, indeed, true that polling places were kept open past the stated 7pm closing time, but not for the nefarious reason that McDonald suggests.

It is a standard practice during elections to allow anyone who was in line prior to closing time to cast a ballot, so that no one is disenfranchised because they failed to anticipate their neighbors’ interest in the election.

    If republicans didn’t close polling locations in their continued attempts to restrict voter turnout, there wouldn’t be the long lines in the first place.
    Plain and simple; republicans don’t want you to vote especially if you have brown skin.

    If people are still in line to vote when the official end time occurs, then they should be allowed to vote.

    Some states have deliberately cut back on the number of precincts in minority-concentrated regions with the intent to undermine the ability of residents to vote. Donald seems to believe that this is good for the democratic process.

    I hope this is the closest these types ever get to the White House ever again. They need some deep cleaning to be done and the sooner the better so we can have two rational choices.

    in the past elections, large voter turnout didn’t bode well for republicans.

    shorter hours means less voters, what’s next, shorten the time a voter has to cast their vote?

    how’s about just having one national voting machine set up at of course the entirely UNTRUSTWORTHY FBI – hell make it in the director’s office. you push the red button for the choice the white republican conservative christian P*SSY GRABBERS have selected, or you get shot through the head.
