17% of Obamacare enrollees to see much higher premiums

Most customers get subsidies and their exposure is limited, but others will be forced to pay more or get less.

What does this mean for the future of the law more generally? That’s really hard to tell right now — but there seem to be two plausible interpretations of the data.

One is that this is a one-time course correction. When Obamacare launched, premiums were much lower than analysts had expected. Insurance plans are now bringing their premiums more in line with expectations and, after they do that, they won’t have to make these big rate increases again.

The other is that this is the start of a possible death spiral for the Obamacare marketplaces: that these new, high premiums will encourage healthy people to leave the market — and only the sick people will stay in. Under this theory, we’ll keep seeing big rate increases as the population gets sicker and sicker.

this is an argument for Single Payer…the Big Insurance companies are finding ways to get around the new laws…these guys are still the problem we have with health insurance, that the ACA has only started to address…until we get the profit driven corporations out of it, we will never be truly happy…

It also has to be disconnected from the workplace.

Drop state lines and open competition in addition to Heath saving accounts.
If the goal was to help the uninsured, we as a Nation could have financed insurance to those people for a portion of what ACA has cost and done to America.
This is the beginning of the end for ACA. Not enough participation for this ponzi scheme to be sustainable.

A week in ICU is going to cost an average of $100-$150K. How many working families are going to have that much money put away exclusively for health care costs?

The goal was to help the uninsured. And right wingers did their level best to sabotage the ACA every step of the way from lying about death panels, to GOP governors refusing Medicaid expansion. So now, after years of hurling bricks through the window of the ACA, the critics are whining about the broken glass.

The bottom line is that every industrialized democracy on the planet, except us, provides for some form of universal health insurance coverage. Looks like American exceptionalism is not such a great thing after all…

As far as your prediction about the “beginning of the end”, predictions from the critics of the ACA have been so laughably wrong in the past, why should anyone believe the latest fairy tale coming down the pike?

They said it was passed in the middle of the night. Lie.

They said no one was signing up. Lie

They said no one was paying their premiums. Lie

They said that the coverage of end of life planning was a scheme to euthanize the elderly. Lie.

Begnning of the end? Won’t that be a great day in America when insurance companies are once again free to cancel your coverage at the very time you need it most.

In my opinion, the opposition was never directly about the ACA and more about the irrational, psychotic hatred right wingers have for the President of the United States. And yes, I said psychotic. I can think of no other words for people who threw a fit because Mr. Obama made a video telling kids to work hard and stay in school.

Here are the links to back up my claims. Unlike Obama-haters, I do not make up BS out of thin air.

Blue Cross praised employees who dropped sick policyholders, lawmaker says

The White House said the address, set for Tuesday, and accompanying suggested lesson plans are simply meant to encourage students to study hard and stay in school.

Many conservative parents aren’t buying it. They’re convinced the president is going to use the opportunity to press a partisan political agenda on impressionable young minds.

You must have missed the part where I said we could have financed an insurance plans for less than ACA. That would mean everyone has insurance since, as you guys and Obama have been saying 80 to 90 % have insurance already.

        Nice rant though…

Your unsubstantiated claim about the cost of financing people is not in any way a convincing argument. What is your source? What specific numbers are you referring to? Did you miss the part where I justified my complete skepticism about anything you ACA haters have to say?

In any case, you must have missed the part where I pointed out that it was the GOP which refused Medicaid expansion which was the strategy to finance coverage for poorest peple.

nice avoidance of the salient point though…

If we simply purchased insurance plans for the 10% who were uninsured and keep what we had, I would be insured.
With the latest report that premiums are set to increase 25% next year, watch things unravel quickly.
I would like to see employees subsidized by employers be required to pay more to cover the high expense of people struggling. Might even be better for employers to opt out and force all their employees to obtain ACA through an exchange.
You don’t mind paying more to help yhe unfortunate…do you?

Now that I am not longer in the work force and pay for my own Health Ins I can’t understand why do many people don’t want me to have any options. After spending 5 days in ICU early this month, I can only imagine what it would have cost me if I didn’t have ObamaCare coverage. No the law is not perfect however, it provides many American’s with the chance to maintain Health Coverage once they leave the work force. All this talk about “free Market” choices will fix everything is just not true. There are many products you can purchase across state lines and the cost of said products is not impacted because you can cross state lines to buy the product.

This is great news! Why? Because the best HC provider in Guber Christie’s RED STATE NJ United Health Care costs +$100 per Month = $650 monthly unsubsidized. The worst HC provider Blue Cross Blue Shield lowest price is $550/mo without subsidy.

In BLUE STATE NY both UHC and BCBS sell the exact same policy for $317/mo w/o Subsidy! The difference is NJ Guber Christie was too dumb to accept Medicaid 5 year gifts! ‘The ACA (ObamaCare) reduces Federal Deficits $1.5 T+’-CBO. ‘The ACA reduced Medicare costs $1.07 T from 2011-2020’-CBO. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4dc007c5cb78c242340d17ebc90e93e98ba0308f25eb2e188add1fe66cb481e3.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a70b3291560cf9c3cd21dbca66ca8cb79296f82e2ada833802891663f71dd093.jpg

(New Jersey is a Blue state, albeit with a horrible, Red guv… but still, overall, it’s a Dem state.)

Health insurance premiums were going through the roof long before Obamacare.

It’s not the fault of Obamacare, it’s the fault of the medical and insurance industries. It’s just nutty for conservatives to blame Obama for this.

That being said, price controls are needed.

It would be a good time to vote Democrat all the way down the ballot since we haven’t had a raise in 18 years
