World’s ‘prettiest dog’ becomes social media sensation

Tea, an Afghan Hound, has been named the world’s “prettiest dog.”

The ‘supermodel’ dog from Sydney became an overnight social media sensation due to her glossy hair.

She is a highly decorated show dog and well-admired in those circles but had never before experienced such social media fame.

I agree. That’s no more the life she was intended for than beauty pageants are for girls or women. That just gratifies the humans. The dogs get nothing out of it. And I don’t think it makes the dog better looking at all. Just my opinion. I want a dog that looks like a dog, not a Peggy Lee wig.

Conformation shows are not mutually exclusive with a dog still enjoying what it was bred for.

Many who show dogs who excel at “beauty pageants” are also entered in field trials. Poodles are an excellent example. They are shown in those extreme cuts in conformation shows. But these same dogs are often entered in competitions for hunting, swimming and retrieving game.

Then there is my own breed, Boston Terriers which are pretty much wash and wear. This is my boy getting winner’s dog just a few weeks ago.. As you see, he is also ready to go out and chase whatever might come his way. Today we are on the way to the Del Valle Dog Club of Livermore show in Pleasanton CA

Yes I do show dogs. And yes people can go overboard trying to emphasize various features of the breeds. But anything can go too far. However if the pendulum swings too far in the opposite direction, you end up with Dalmatians with no spots. There is a balance to everything in life, including dog shows..

just as long as she doesn’t put on any weight – or else we’ll have to get her on a treadmill in front of the media.
