Tulsa cop charged with manslaughter in death of Terence Crutcher

The white Tulsa officer shot and killed an unarmed black man.

Officer Betty Shelby was charged with first-degree manslaughter for the death of Terence Crutcher, 40. The incident, captured on widely broadcast police videos, is one in a series that has raised questions of racial bias in U.S. policing.

“Although she is charged, she is presumed innocent until a judge or jury determines otherwise,” Kunzweiler said. “I don’t know why things happen in this world the way they do.”

Crutcher, whose car had broken down and was blocking a road, can be seen in two videos provided by Tulsa police on Monday with his hands in clear view before he was shot by Shelby.

A lawyer for Shelby has said she acted because she feared for her life, believing Crutcher was reaching into his vehicle for a weapon during the encounter, which took place last Friday.

But she was in fear for her life, dontcha know. Even with his hands in the air and the window of his car rolled up, he could have easily rolled down the window with one food, while grabbing and firing his gun with the other.
        .
That ho-bitch should spend the rest of her life behind bars.

I will be surprised if a jury finds her guilty.

The pay-to-play dude who murdered an unarmed guy who said something on the order of whoopsie – I intended to be whipping out my taser (which was strapped onto his big fat front while his gun was at his side) and whoops whoops whoopsie doodle.

          They gave him 4 years.

This year. In Tulsa. It was a country deal.

Gives a little bit of hope.

Manslaughter is better than nothing but murder is the deserved charge. Cops are or should be held to a higher standard and display sound judgement in cases like these. We have had far too many shoot now then ask questions later cases. What’s even more disturbing is to know before the advent of videos and cell phones these incidents went unchecked and the reports of cops were held as the final word. More and more incidents will occur and more and more will be recorded but first the attitudes of cops must change…

So many of them seem to be excessively fearful of people of color. If they are they that fearful of the people they are supposed to “serve and protect” then they need to find a less stressful job.I really don’t believe most of them are gun happy, they are just to afraid, and fear clouds proper thinking.

Any encounter between Black citizens and White Officers has the potential to turn out this way. Both parties are often clouded by fear of each other. The greater burden of responsibility lie with the Police. Too often all they see when encountering someone like this man is a big scary colored man who is ‘on something’. I am convinced that many of the suspect getting killed were paralyzed by fear. I don’t know how else to explain the often heard account of not putting up hands, fiddling with their waist band, etc. This is a factor that needs to be assumed in Police training. Also it wouldn’t hurt to train cops that they do not always need to shoot to kill.
