NAACP leader: Doesn’t matter if he had a gun

Posted by | September 22, 2016 12:42 | Filed under: Top Stories

The head of Charlotte’s NAACP says it’s irrelevant whether or not Keith Scott had a gun.

…Corine Mack said ultimately it didn’t matter. “I think the most important part is the contrast in him having a book versus a gun. But in my mind and in most of the community’s mind, it really doesn’t matter if he had a gun,” she said…

“At the end of the day we have the right under the Second Amendment to carry here in North Carolina,” she said. “And [the police’s] responsibility was to engage him in a more deescalated way, to find out if he had a permit for his gun and allow him to go on his merry way and he would still be living today. That’s not what happened.”

“So I don’t want anyone to walk away from this conversation today thinking that a video showing he had a gun in any way says that he was guilty of anything,” concluded Mack.

    She is absolutely right.

All the things she says is true, but in the real world maybe not such a good idea.

We can look to the recent shooting death of Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old boy shot dead for carrying a BB gun in a Cleveland Park. Or John Crawford, who was gunned down by police in a WalMart as he held an unloaded air rifle from one of the store’s shelves.

Sadly this is the world we now find outselves.

That’s what the protests are about the world we live in now is unacceptable and it has to change. Those you site were all black if they had been white they would still be alive.

the better question might be: if they had obeyed the officers commands…would they still be alive.

( I know I’ll get some responses, but please, just answer my question)

Tamir Rice was shot a few seconds after the cop got out of his car so how the f*ck was he suppose to obey a command? That answer your question bubba?

what was the reason for a black man being shot to death in a walmart holding a toy gun in the toy aisle? there was no command. there was a racist pos that called the police and lied, they showed up they shot. Rice never had a word come his way. on bullets. Philando, in a traffic stop, sitting in his car, responding respectfully to this “cop” and was murdered in front of his girlfriend and a child. commands didn’t matter here. you know this and this isn’t the type of situation where it calls for devils advocate. Gurley, shot while unarmed in his own apt. complex hallway, by a “cop” why, cause black and he’s afraid of dark skin. this has to end. and there’s more. in 2015 more than 100 unarmed black people were murdered by police:

Police are trained,or maybe better to say used to be trained,to use a use of force ascending scale. From A to F, the letter a would be the first on the scale, which would be a stern command. The letter f would be the last, which would be deadly force. From most of the scenarios that I’ve seen on the videos,it looks as if they skipped the b,c,and e and have done so even when their suspects have been physically subdued. There is clearly something wrong and proper procedures have consistently been disregarded.Dont know if that makes sense to you,but I tried.

            Thanks. See my response above.

Thanks for the responses. I know there are too many cases where the officer does needlessly shot first, too many in fact. I don’t try to second guess the police, they face violent unreasonable people daily, it’s a tough job.

How many interactions do the police have, on a daily basis, with minorities? And what percentage end in shootings? I venture to say a very small number.

When an officer senses/feels a life threatening action by someone how would you have them respond? I guess my point is that some/many/most police shootings are justified…unfortunately. Those that aren’t do need to be prosecuted.

The cop from Oklahoma has been arrested with a manslaughter charge.

Something many people forget, Black folk have the same second amendment rights as white folks..
But exercising those same rights seems to be more lethal to black folks..
Look at those Texas Open Carry idiots..
Good thig they are white boys, or at lest one of them would have been gunned down by the police by now.

On this narrow arrow, I share some common ground with the gun nuts.

Just having a gun should not get you shot.

Trevor Noah sums it up pretty good….

If he didn’t have a gun, a whole lotta cops need to be fired – at the very least.

OK, there may be just a few bad cops.

But there are a whole lot of cops who don’t do the right thing and speak up.

They have no business being cops.

  8. Bunya September 23rd, 2016 at 13:52

Oh yeah. it’s real hard to tell a gun from a book. In any event, whatever happened to tazers? It seems to me cops today are way too quick to reach for their firearms.

Just think, without the 2nd Amendment, how many people would still be alive today
