What we know about the Minnesota mall stabber

Posted by | September 19, 2016 12:39 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly

He was 22-year-old Dahir Adan.

Ahmed Adan identified his son as the man who walked into the Crossroads Center Mall, dressed as a private security guard, and proceeded to attack 9 people with a kitchen knife. Dahir Adan was said to have shouted out references to Allah during the attack, and asked at least one of his victims if he was a Muslim before stabbing them.

Adan was eventually shot dead by an off-duty police officer, and none of his victims suffered life-threatening wounds.

Adan comes from a Somali family, and his father told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that his son was born in Kenya before they moved to America 15 years ago. Adan’s family members said that he was a student at St. Cloud State University (though he hasn’t been enrolled since this spring), and his father said he had “no suspicion” of his son’s involvement with terrorism…

Authorities state that Adan’s precise motivations are not yet clear, though ISIS-linked media channels have praised his actions and called him a “soldier of the Islamic State.”

Thank republican Bush for declaring war on two Muslim countries and causing the terrorism problem.

    • amongoose September 19th, 2016 at 14:58

So there was no muslim terrorism problem before Bush?

      • halfwayin September 19th, 2016 at 15:03

        Terrorism expanded under Reagan.

But it never got to our shore until dubya.

Munich ’72, Iranian embassy ’79, has been going on for a long, long time.
And what did we do in 1800 to cause them to take our ships and make slaves of or ransom the crews?

          • halfwayin September 19th, 2016 at 15:27

Here is a perfect example of how home schooling reading class fails so badly

There is a nine word sentence on the bottom of my post.

Two of the words are “our shore”

Let me slow it down for you

            O U R. S H O R E.

            • amongoose September 19th, 2016 at 15:42

Yeah, here, but world wide islam has been doing this for a very long time.
just because we haven’t been hit until recently doesn’t mean it isn’t a problem. And technically our embassy in Iran was U.S. Soil.

              • bpollen September 19th, 2016 at 16:22

And technically our embassy in Iran was U.S. Soil.

Seriously, you are trying to say that a compound IN Iran is within our shores?

Hope you didn’t put your whole wad into that (cough) rebuttal!

                • amongoose September 19th, 2016 at 16:36

                  It will only get worse.
Why do you defend “religious zealots” who toss gay people off of buildings?
Kill their daughters for marrying someone not approved, or just having sex?

The point of when it started here is irrelevant, it’s here how do you intend to stop it?
Other than blaming some else for it.

                  • Suzanne McFly September 19th, 2016 at 16:55

You do realize your description of “religious zealots” is what some in the republican party are trying to bring here now, right? They hate gays, women are worthless especially if they are having sex with someone else, and don’t get me started on people with a little melanin in their skin.

                  • halfwayin September 19th, 2016 at 17:36

300 million armed Americans up against a mope with a kitchen knife does not seem like a much of a fight to me.

                  • bpollen September 20th, 2016 at 03:51

Why do you defend “religious zealots” who toss gay people off of buildings?

Making shite up, eh? You WERE trying to say that an embassy in Iran is within the continental US! That’s hysterical.

It’s really pitiful that you, with absolutely no evidence, claim I am defending zealots of any stripe. I challenged your contention that Iran exists in the Lower 48. You didn’t explain your erroneous contention, you lied. I think that is called… oh, how does that go… losing your shite?l

I can play that game too! Why do you beat your wife? How long have you been abusing your children? See, I can make shite up based on nothing TOO! You never said you beat your wife or abuse your children, nor did I defend ANY friggin’ zealots.

The point apparently isn’t how to stop it, it’s how to freak out and lie when challenged on your BS.

                    • amongoose September 20th, 2016 at 11:11

So how do you stop it? Because it now is here.
Oh, and the beltway sniper was muslim.

                    • whatthe46 September 20th, 2016 at 11:20

The Unabomber wasn’t a Muslim. Timothy McVeigh wasn’t.

                    • amongoose September 20th, 2016 at 11:33

                      Do some research, and again.
How do you propose to stop it?
Or do you believe as European leaders do who have told their people this is “the new norm”.

                    • whatthe46 September 20th, 2016 at 13:09

                      That’s a stupid question.

                    • amongoose September 20th, 2016 at 13:11

Is it the how to stop islamic terrorism here is a stupid question,
or my reference to European leaders?
                      .
How do we stop terrorism on our soil?

                    • whatthe46 September 20th, 2016 at 13:20

How do you stop the McVeigh’s? You act like only Muslims commit terrorist acts and it’s not true.

                    • amongoose September 21st, 2016 at 10:18

There are a lot more mohammads doing this than mc veigh’s, why don’t we work on the biggest problem first?

                    • whatthe46 September 21st, 2016 at 12:16

You are part of America’s biggest problem.

                    • oldfart September 20th, 2016 at 13:58

                      We can’t.
                      SH*T happens…
                      On a planetary scale.
Arming every last man, woman and child wont stop it either.

                    • amongoose September 21st, 2016 at 10:18

Didn’t say arming everyone was. This is the type ccw carrier that you need on the street.
But I can’t accept bombs in the street as the new norm.

                    • oldfart September 21st, 2016 at 10:40

Neither can I and this guy didn’t have a bomb either. Your question was how do we stop it…shy of eliminating the humans off the planet, you can’t.
The larger point being, this isn’t JUST a Muslim problem.

                    • amongoose September 21st, 2016 at 20:31

                      Agreed,

People who carry should know not just how to shoot, but more importantly, when not to, like that guy. From reports I read he confronted him and fired only after he lunged with the knife.

What measures do you think would work?
Where is the line surveillance can’t cross?
Reasonable cause being in the eye of the beholder, do you think radical speech from any quarter would merit an FBI look see?

                    • oldfart September 22nd, 2016 at 00:42

Well, if one lived in Russia, no problemo.
and here in the homeland most lines of surveillance are more than likely already being crossed, to think otherwise would be foolish. “reasonable cause” ? hell if you look at a cop cross-eyed you can find yourself spread eagle with a gun to your head in a heartbeat . Now having the FBI relay info to local authority for “further investigation”…that couldn’t hurt…much. (see reasonable cause)
Like it or not no one can stop a lone or well planned attack…that’s why it’s called terrorism.
IMO, that’s why it would be a very good idea to register weapons and background check everybody under any purchase circumstance…
and while I’m at it pressure cookers as well.

                    • amongoose September 25th, 2016 at 10:16

I am not willing to accept bombs in our streets as the new norm. We know they are being radicalized online and in mosques. We could start by shutting them down.

                    • oldfart September 25th, 2016 at 10:58

Let’s begin with this first. This is a free country and an open society.
What you are suggesting is one hell of a slippery slope that’s is prejudicial to an entire group of American citizenry…”They”.

                    • amongoose September 25th, 2016 at 20:50

I am suggesting that if there is credible evidence obtain a warrant, place the bugs and monitor.
The mayor of NYC dismantled the monitoring program, why?
It’s not prejudice if there is evidence to back up the assertion of radicalization from the mosque or website.

                    • oldfart September 26th, 2016 at 08:35

Well as far as the internet goes, I had eluded to the fact that this is already being done. I have read several stories of arrests being made by FBI sting operations. Most likely stemming from tips (monitoring) off the internet. Key word filtering/Actionable evidence or what ever the function is they call it.
As far as infiltrating mosques is concerned, I’d be willing to bet it is still being done just not blatantly out in the open anymore and most likely much more prevalent in red states.
Pre 9/11 this activity would cause a stink heard around the world. Thanks to our “patriot act” everyone in this country has given up their right to privacy, weather your hell bent on destruction or not, in that sense the terrorists have already won.
But let’s be clear here, in this country, by and large the Muslim faith community is not the enemy. There are far more white Christian faith “patriot groups” already here, loaded to the teeth and blatantly advocating sedition, violence and overthrow.

                    • amongoose September 26th, 2016 at 09:21

But the” white Christian faith “patriot groups” aren’t the ones blowing people up in the streets.
Don’t you think it would be a good idea to investigate these mosques that these terrorists worshiped in?
There seem to be a few in NY and Boston that seem to have more than their share of bombers.
That would be a good place to start.

                    • oldfart September 26th, 2016 at 09:59

NONE of the latest bunch of ISIS wanna-bee’s strike me as “church goers” and there has been no evidence provided that proves this.
There is however ample evidence of internet usage related to radical sites and it also appears that some of them had made trips outside the US …
meaning the likelihood of being indoctrinated or radicalized is not stemming from or occurring within mosques here in the US. (if there is and if we know, it is not being made public.)
“Radicalized” white groups have not gotten as much public scrutiny but still have been blowing things up fewer and farther in-between. Their apparent motivation is not tied to religion per say but to the destruction of the Government. Their methods are in fact just as terroristic.
I trust you don’t believe all Muslims in this country are bad…

                    • amongoose September 26th, 2016 at 10:12

I have to go to the archives to find a “white radical” bombing, I can go to the current front page and find them from those claiming to be inspired by islam.
A lot of that radicalization is occurring in mosques.
                      Please check it out.
The Cascade Mall shooters social media was full of islamic hate, why wasn’t it taken down, or used as reason for an investigation?
If we can’t take proactive investigative measures to stop this, how can we?

                    • oldfart September 26th, 2016 at 10:25

“A lot of that radicalization is occurring in mosques.”
If you mean outside the US you would be correct.
However if you mean here at home, your assertion requires facts that you cannot supply nor can I dispute

I have asked you only one question now twice,
in the interest of a honest two way conversation care to answer it ?

                    • amongoose September 26th, 2016 at 13:46

Do I think that all muslims are terrorists, no.
But it is amazing that all the moderate ones can’t control their whackos.

                    • oldfart September 26th, 2016 at 14:07

Thank you for that. the Muslim religion is not like Christianity, there is no Headquarters. there has been no “reformation” or Vatican 1 or 2…
No picked “priests” from the hierarchy chain of command.
Any “whacko” as you called them, can declare themselves a leader. Even within their own religion they are busy killing themselves off (in case you haven’t noticed). that should explain a few things to you.
The fact is that no matter what religion (or none) people are from some whacko, who is hell bent on destruction and mayhem, will always get through and hurt people.

                    • amongoose September 26th, 2016 at 14:03

It was going on then, and still is.

In 2006 they issued this on radicalization in mosques.
                      https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/news/testimony/islamic-radicalization

                      And in 2011

                    • oldfart September 26th, 2016 at 14:26

“The FBI approaches the radicalization issue on two levels:
We are attempting to understand the dynamics of individual and organizational radicalization to identify early indicators as to whether individuals or groups are demonstrating the potential for violence.
We are engaged in extensive outreach to Muslim communities to dispel misconceptions that may foster extremism.”
                      and,
                      “Grievance,
Discontent seems to serve as the prerequisite of the radicalization process. Issues driving this attitude toward individuals in the West may include perceived persecution of Muslims throughout the world; a sense of uprootedness, alienation, or lack of acceptance; feelings of discrimination, especially among second- or third-generation immigrants; or a general search for identity.”
thank you for both links I’ve read and pasted here some highlites.
IMO, what this proves is that cooperation combine with level headed analysis is being done to combat the problem. I do not argue that people of the Muslim faith are also waging a war with our country, I am simply stating that they are not the only ones doing it.

                    • amongoose September 27th, 2016 at 14:40

Problem is this religion seems to have little success in controlling their radicals. Maybe we should start by investigating all those mosques that these domestic islamic terrorists attended?

                    • oldfart September 28th, 2016 at 00:42

These radicals more than likely did not attend one, like I said before these recent batch of folks did not strike me as church goers, certainly not in the traditional sense. To think that mosques are NOT getting scrutinized especially any they may have attended would not be realistic.

                    • amongoose September 28th, 2016 at 10:24

De Blasio pulled surveillance from them, how are they being watched?
                      http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/nypd-bill-de-blasio-shutters-controversial-muslim-unit

There are a lot of stories on surveillance being pulled from mosques where bombers and shooters prayed, but they are on news sources you don’t read.
                      .
I don’t think enough is being done, and the vetting process for refugees is a joke, how do you screen people when you can’t get information from their own govt., as in Syria..

Study up and google; NY Muslims report terrorists to police & FBI.

P.s. Circuit Court of appeals Judge Rules NYPD Stop and Frisk Practices Unconstitutional, Racially Discriminatory. August 12, 2013, New York – In a landmark decision today, a federal court found the New York City Police Department’s highly controversial stop-and-frisk practices unconstitutional. In her thorough, 198-page ruling, Judge Shira Scheindlin found the NYPD’s practices to violate New Yorkers’ Fourth Amendment rights to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures and also found that the practices were racially discriminatory in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. To remedy the widespread constitutional violations, the judge ordered a court-appointed monitor to oversee a series of reforms to NYPD policing practices and also ordered a Joint Remedial Process which will solicit input from a variety of stakeholders, including New York communities most directly affected by policing. https://ccrjustice.org/home/press-center/press-releases/landmark-decision-judge-rules-nypd-stop-and-frisk-practices

Everything I read is taken with caution. I do read articles of both political bents…the old saying don’t believe everything you read applies here.
I’m getting the distinct impression you really don’t like Muslim people and that you have zero faith in our government. I understand the frustration you’re expressing.
I know that this will sound cliché to you but I live very close to Cornell U.
I’ve met young folks of the Muslim persuasion and they share quite similar frustrations just in the opposite sense and they understand distinctions.
For example, the anger, fear and hatred being projected upon them by our countries lunatic conservative and (so called) Christian religious leaders.
They know not every American feels this way…

Step One – take off the diaper and stop crappin’ your drawers because “Muslim!” Religious extremists come from all religions. And the VAST majority are decent and law-abiding citizens in those religions.

Step Two – Don’t go off the deep end when you say stupid stuff and get called on it.

Step Three – Take a step back and realize that, in whatever pants-pooping ethnic group that would call you a member, you got assholes too.

Step Four – Embrace your fellow citizens as EQUAL citizens.

Step Five – Stop being a religious bigot (which is exactly what ISIS is made up of.)

Step Six – MEET some Muslims. Try to find out what kind of people they are. It’s easy to crap your pants in fear and rail and lie and wail about a group you have never had contact with. See if you can honestly look at a Muslim child and say that he IS a religious extremist, that he/she throws gays off buildings, decapitates people etc.

Step Seven – Stop being a bigot and stereotyping 1.5 billion people because of the religion that were raised in. Just how many billions of Muslims have THROWN gays off buildings? Where does that 1.6 billion gay victim pool come from? Will infants have help, or must they do it themselves?

Step Eight – Figure out how Jim Jones and David Koresh and Tony Alamo and Warren Jeffs and Timothy McVeigh and Robert Dear and the entire Catholic Church history don’t define Christianity, but our contemporary Muslim extremists do. Figure out how that makes logical sense.

Step Nine – Get help for your rampant (and rancid) paranoia.

Step Ten – Stop pretending you care about what happens to gays.

So I (we) change my attitude and they will stop?
                      .
Nice to know that the solution is so simple.
Thank you for the exchange of ideas.

                      Have a nice day.

I told you what YOU could do to help. Because, regardless of what your ego tells you, you really are absolutely incapable of correcting foreign oppression, foreign poverty, foreign unemployment, foreign plutocracies, foreign lack of social advancement, our foreign policy, what chickenshit Islamophobic Republicans say that directly attacks Muslims as ALL being terrorists and not fit to darken our shores….

You don’t want to take any part in the solution, you’re part of the problem.

Have a hateful Islamophobic day! May you have a constant supply of clean panties so you are’t wet ALL day!

USA’s armed toddlers currently kill 50 Americans per year! The 50 killed by U.S. toddlers annually are far more than the 100 fifteen year total killed by terrorists in the USA since September 11, 2001. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/6ba7cc0ad90d50791e7a2300d82a81ef8b0317eb2ec8ecfb636c29b8f90dcc4c.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/81ced62ddd1896a48e06181c0dbaaf3c79cc5b6a06fccafba089f7ded4fe08ae.png

                  Those are preventable accidents
One jihadist killed that many in Orlando, in one night, and it was no accident.
