Florida clerk says she was fired for not issuing same-sex marriage certificates

Posted by | September 17, 2016 09:39 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Yanicka Parker told her bosses she wouldn’t issue marriage certificates to same-sex couples.

She’s has now filed a federal lawsuit against Howard C. Forman, the Clerk of Courts for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in Broward County, Florida.  In the lawsuit, she says she has “sincerely held religious beliefs in which she believes it is a sin for persons of same sex to engage in sexual relations. ”

Around early January 6, 2015, shortly after her office was instructed to start issuing same sex marriage license, Parker asked if she could be accommodated so that she could perform her “job duties without having to issue marriage licenses to same sex couple or perform marriage ceremony for same sex couples.” Parker contends shortly after she asked for the accommodation she was terminated because of her request. She said that there were six other clerks in the office who were perfectly capable and willing to issue the licenses.

My animals are my saving grace, without them I would think this world was a pit of ugliness.

So she wanted to keep showing up and getting her paycheck but didn’t want to perform all the duties of her job, just the ones she approved of?

No, she wants the 6 other workers, who were perfectly fine with doing their job, to do her job too. This would require her to work a bit. She was not use to that.

If she thinks it’s a “sin” for two women or two men to marry each other, I hope she’s not wearing mixed fibers, because according to the same book she goes by, that’s also a “sin.”

I hope the judge has as much sense as the Clerk of Courts, and throws the case out.

…and follows up with legal charges for unlawfully using her state authority to openly DISCRIMINATE against US CITIZENS she disagrees with.

The problem, of course, is that they don’t see anything wrong with using religious rules to run the government.

In their feeble minds Gawd’s Law is always trumps man’s law and the Bible takes precedence of the Constitution. Hell, we’ve seen Republican politicians say that.

Separation of church and state means nothing to them.

            • Red Mann September 17th, 2016 at 18:40

More than that, in their “minds” there is no such thing, again supported by Republican politicians.

That’s why they keep putting the ten commandments in courthouses, and trying to put prayer back in schools. The best quote I remember about prayer in schools was, if you want to see prayer in schools, come around during finals week.

One of the, many, lies the right tells is how “They took Gawd out of schools. Kids can’t pray or read the Babble in school anymore!”
They use this blatant falsehood to keep their flock in line, and sending in money.

“…six other clerks in the office who were perfectly capable and willing to issue the licenses.” And that’s also her job. What’s the problem? Maybe they don’t actually need all those clerks in the first place.

  8. granpa.usthai September 17th, 2016 at 17:40

If the state constitution of Florida allows them to subvert the US Constitution (which it don’t) then she’s free to use her official powers to DISCRIMINATE against whoever she wants for what ever reason she wants. If it don’t, she might want to start looking for another job that allows her to DISCRIMINATE against US CITIZENS while wearing MIXED FIBERS all she wants to.

Violate SCOTUS upholding equal marriage via the the 10th & 14th ‘Can I do my Government’ “job duties without having to issue marriage licenses to same sex couple or perform marriage ceremony for same sex couples.”-No but if you can do the same well trained demonstration like Michele copying Marcus. Go for it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5EmnQp3V48

Failure to perform duties. You’ll see that in a lot of employment contracts. It’s cause for termination.
