Texas elector may defect from Trump

The electors are the ones who literally elect the president.

Chris Suprun is a member of the Electoral College from Texas, a state the GOP can reliably count on to deliver votes every four years to the Republican presidential nominee.

But this year, with Donald Trump sitting atop the ticket, Suprun is warning he might not cast his electoral vote for the GOP standard-bearer. Indeed, he won’t rule out throwing his vote to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton if Trump doesn’t moderate his demeanor.

“I’m not a professional politician. I’ve got no training on this one,” said Suprun. “The nominee is … saying things that in an otherwise typical election year would have you disqualified.

As near as I can tell from some quick research, there are 29 states which have laws requiring electors to vote in accordance with their state’s popular vote. Texas is NOT one of those states. So yes, this guy could vote for Hillary, regardless of the results in Texas.

There is no constitutional requirement or federal law which controls how electors may vote. it is up to the states to make the rules, or have no rules at all concerning their electoral college delegates.

In that sense, maybe the system is rigged.

I agree, with your “rigged” statement. I think the electors should follow the majority of their states votes and vote accordingly, not matter how stupid Texans vote.

The way it was set up, the states elected a President to manage the United States Organization. The people do not elect the President because the President does not directly represent them. He manages the government for the “United States”. The Peoples vote is only an advisory vote to tell their state how they would like the State to vote. The first few Presidents were elected by the Continental Congress that was made up from the States Representatives.

      Exactly…
      My state, Missouri…
The electors can vote for whom ever no matter the popular vote count.

““The nominee is … saying things that in an otherwise typical election year would have you disqualified.” but if he changes his tune you’ll reconsider? how stupid are these people?

Dump the Electoral College and go to direct voting and let the people decide

    • The Original Just Me August 25th, 2016 at 22:56

President of the United States of America. NOT President of the People. The States elect their President. The people’s vote is only an advisory vote.

Yeah, before the people get really pissed off, break out the pitchforks and start building guilloteens.

I get very tired of these people who keep coming out for attention and saying this crap. If they think they would still vote for him if he starts lying nicer, who cares what they think?
You know they are going to vote for him anyway.
