Republican leaders issue statements supporting Khan, but strangely not mentioning Trump

It’s as though Donald Trump doesn’t exist in the statements by Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. They want to make it clear they support the Khan family, but don’t address the source of the controversy.

…Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan issued separate statements on Sunday defending Khizr and Ghazala Kahn while strangely failing to mention the Republican presidential candidate who insulted them.

“All Americans should value the patriotic service of the patriots who volunteer to selflessly defend us in the armed services,” wrote McConnell. “And as I have long made clear, I agree with the Khans and families across the country that a travel ban on all members of a religion is simply contrary to American values.”

Ryan similarly “rejected” Trump’s comments and proposed Muslim ban without directly criticizing the man responsible for both.

Pretty bad they let rump become their identity but it is even worse now that they ignore what they have become. Isn’t admitting the problem the first step? At this rate, the dems will have the White House for at least the next two elections. Maybe by then, we would have at least some of bush’s effs ups fixed.

I like the way you worded that,”They ignore what they have become”! That is not the path to growth as an individual nor as a group. They ignore as if the problem isnt there, secretly hoping it will magically disappear, without the moral backbone to stand against it.Their foolishness and incompetence can no longer be hidden behind closed doors.Shame on them!

They are like drug addicts who aren’t ready to be “cured”.

Good point, with one big difference.Drug addicted people slowly destroy themselves. These present day republicans have the potential to destroy everyone, and in little donnys case to destroy the world.

I refuse to believe this scum could ever win a general election. I will not even prepare myself for it just in case.

They are cowards who will not stand up to the sociopath who took over their party despite the request of a war hero’s grieving family.
The world is watching the bigotry and cowardice that represents today’s racist republicans.

Yet another reason to loath the gutless republicans. They become more pathetic everyday.

Even mentioning Trump would imply support for him

    • whatthe46 July 31st, 2016 at 23:54

not mentioning that he was wrong IS supporting him.

I’d say “leaders” is stretching it a bit, now isn’t it?
Perhaps “selfish little bastards concerned only with their own skin” would be a more appropriate description.

Khan was on something this morning and specifically asked both of these two, what he referred to as “patriots,” to denounce what was said. I guess this was the best they could manage.
