When Walmart thought a woman president was against ‘family values’

Tonight, a woman will accept the DNC’s formal nomination to run as president of the United States. We possibly could have our first female president. I’m not a fan of Hillary, but this is an important moment in the history of the United States regardless of how you feel about her. The women who fought in…

In this day and age, admitting a mistake deserves credit.

Nice to see Walmart has evolved. Maybe in another 20 years, none of their employees will need food stamps to feed their families.

to think, one person having a shite fit caused them to remove the entire line.

Well in all honesty, that thought is prevalent to this day in Florida, home of a huge population of octogenarians.

In 20 years, they won’t have any employees. They’ll have Chinese-made robots doing everything. And the stock price, and the executive compensation, will go through the roof.

        You reminded me of this story;

An article on the Economist website recently told an extraordinary anecdote about automation. The rivals in the tale were two titans in the world of automobile manufacturing who took a tour of a newly built and highly-automated factory. The forceful executive, Henry Ford II, and the leader of the automobile workers union, Walter Reuther, both saw many examples of advanced machinery operating at the plant. The words they exchanged brilliantly encapsulated the paradox of automation:

Henry Ford II: Walter, how are you going to get those robots to pay your union dues?

Walter Reuther: Henry, how are you going to get them to buy your cars?

Perfect, hopefully more business leaders will make that connection.

did you watch the DNC tonight? it was GREAT!

            • Suzanne McFly July 29th, 2016 at 10:19

I was at work, but when my client went to bed I turned it on. It was a great thing to see, I was able to watch the other parts today. The entire convention was amazing IMO. I have never been more proud of my political party in my life.

Well if there is a buck to be made Walmart will be there with the “finest” Chinese made products they can find

Does anyone else find it weird that there is no mention of Hillary having worked for WalMart?

    • Obewon July 28th, 2016 at 23:37

From 1992 she has been unsuccessfully targeted by Greedy Oil Polluters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-namImCszCk

it looks like only Kick finds that she had a job weird. first woman to work on the board of directors for a major company and now she’ll be the first woman to be elected as the President of the United States, damn wonderful if you ask me.

        • Kick Frenzy July 29th, 2016 at 17:40

Please, never suggest I’m a misogynist.
          It’s patently false.

Any issues I have with Hillary Clinton are based on her actions.
I don’t give a s*t what color/religion/sex/gender identity/etc a person is, that doesn’t define who they are or what they do.
I’m not sure why you keep getting hung up on that, since you should know it’s irrelevant to any point I make.

      • whatthe46 July 29th, 2016 at 00:07

why in the hell does he make it seem like that’s such an awful damn thing to do? besides, that comment is what you’d expect to come from someone on the [r]ight. can’t come up with something terrible, so nit pick.

        • Kick Frenzy July 29th, 2016 at 17:34

          You’re projecting dude.
I never said anything good or bad about her having worked on the board of directors.
It just seemed like it’s pertinent to the story.

          • whatthe46 July 29th, 2016 at 18:55

they didn’t think women should be president. and you are acting like it was a terrible thing. i’m not projecting anything. you constantly come up with whatever you can to belittle her. and your talking about that was no different.

            • Kick Frenzy July 30th, 2016 at 00:29

              Wrong.
I don’t “come up with” anything to belittle her.
Anything I mention that’s negative about her are things based on what she actually did.

You’re right, they didn’t think women should be president.
Hillary wasn’t there when that t-shirt kerfuffle went down, it was after she left… so she wasn’t involved in that in any manner.
Although, I have no doubt she was fully aware of they’re resistance to women being in positions of actual power… and was probably proud to get the position she got, in spite of WalMart’s usual m.o.

My initial comment wasn’t meant to belittle Hillary or to present her in a negative light.
It was as simple as it struck me as worthy of inclusion in a story about WalMart being against women being president… and here is an ex-employee who is a woman who got the Dem nomination to be president.

If I wanted to say something negative about Hillary and WalMart, I would be clear what I was getting at.
Like the fact that the company is anti-union and she had to be complicit in their anti-union activities, given the role she was in.
Or that she proudly worked for a company that treats it’s workers as poorly as it does.

But the fact that she’s a woman has no bearing on those observations.
Nor did they have anything to do with the reason I made my initial post about finding it odd that she wasn’t a bigger part of the story.
I wasn’t making a political statement, just a journalistic observation.

              • whatthe46 July 30th, 2016 at 00:39

and working for walmart you thought was a negative thing. back in the 90’s. what if a 19 y/o is working for walmart right now and he/she is attending school and this is a ways of making ends meet in the mean time, and then one day decide to become a mayor or a governor and is in a position to fight against Walmart, would you then say, well look, back 20 years ago he/she worked for walmart. or lets even say chick fil a, for a number of years and decided to fight against them for they bias against the LGBT community, does that mean they are bad people?

                  Do me a favor?
Reply to this with anything… I just want to remember to come back and respond to what you’re saying.
I had started to look up some info, but my mom just got to my place… so, you know… blog comments can wait. :)

                  So, back to this thing.
Yes, I do think being a supportive member on the board of directors is a red flag on a resume.
                  No, I don’t think being a cashier/stock person/greeter/etc is the same thing.

For instance, I worked for WalMart as a cashier and as a stockboy.
                  Back in the 90s.
But I can damn well guarantee that if I ran for office, I wouldn’t get a six figure donation from one of the Waltons (like Hillary did).

                  • whatthe46 July 30th, 2016 at 23:13

this is NOT going to go on all night. and you’re the only one with your panties in a bunch. get ’em out.

                    • Kick Frenzy July 30th, 2016 at 23:31

I wasn’t trying to make it go on all night.
                      I’m just answering your questions.

Plus, you’re the one who thought I was saying something negative when I was originally just pointing out that the story missed an opportunity to expound on the story due to there being a woman candidate for president… who also was on their board of directors in the past.

I know I have a history of not liking Hillary, but assuming every word a person says is based on a single premise is short-sighting your own arguments.
In this case, you assumed I was saying something negative, when I was saying something neutral.

I don’t need this to go on… I was just trying to tell you that your assumption of my original post was wrong.
                      It’s that simple.

                    • whatthe46 July 30th, 2016 at 23:48

                      ok.

    • whatthe46 July 28th, 2016 at 23:39

your point? so what? “In 1986, Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart, was under pressure to
appoint a woman to the company’s 15-member -all male- board of
directors. So, Mr. Walton asked a young lawyer, Hillary Rodham Clinton,
who just happened to be married to the governor of Arkansas at the time,
where Wal-Mart is based, to be the sole female member of the board.” HOW DARE SHE!

      • Kick Frenzy July 29th, 2016 at 17:37

My point is that in reporting about a company who had a position of “women shouldn’t be president”, who had a woman on their board of directors a few years later, who has since gone on to become the Democratic nominee… you would think that angle would get worked into the story.

Even if just for pointing at WalMart and saying “HA!”

It could be worked in from a positive or negative angle, I was just surprised it wasn’t worked in at all.

So please, stop assuming I’m a simple minded hater.
You know me better than that and it’s insulting to your own intelligence to keep slamming me for things I haven’t said or done.

        • whatthe46 July 29th, 2016 at 18:54

she was hired because of the backlash. and i’m certain they still believed that women shouldn’t hold the presidency.

          • Kick Frenzy July 30th, 2016 at 00:16

            I bet you’re right!

does anyone find it strange that during the RNC and fox entertainment and all of the other radio talk shows, that they never mentioned all of tRumps lies and failures and b.s., nor the fact that his wife was a lesbian porn model?
