Church attack in France: IS claims credit
A Catholic priest is murdered in another horrific, violent attack in France:
Click here for reuse options!A priest has been killed in an attack by two armed men at his church in a suburb of Rouen in northern France.
The attackers entered the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray during Mass, taking the priest, Fr Jacques Hamel, 84, and four other people hostage.
Police later surrounded the church and French TV said shots were fired. Both hostage-takers are now dead.
President Francois Hollande said the men claimed to be from so-called Islamic State (IS).
Speaking in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, he said the attackers had committed a “cowardly assassination” and France would fight IS “by all means”.
The IS-linked Amaq news agency said “two soldiers of the Islamic State” had carried out the attack.
Pope Francis decried the “pain and horror of this absurd violence”.

I think ISIS claims credit for acts of violence in which they had no role. Having said that, I’m not sure what killing an 84 year-old does for them other than make them look like cowards.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi the founder of ISIS was a thug. He was nothing about religion but he did use it to support his thuggery.
Did you ever watch the Frontline episode about Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and how ISIS started?
He was so violent that even Bin Laden told him to slow down and stop killing Arabs. But he paid no mind.

Thanks for the link. It just reaffirms my feelings about where the real outrage should be directed. Yes Obama also made bad decisions, but Bush dealt him a sh!ty hand. And this is our parties divide, the two parties will never be able to work together as long as the Republicans refuse to “own up” to Bush’s responsibility of creating this mess.
Now like Isis, The Radical Republican Right want to rule the US with their warped religious views.

I have not watched the Frontline program, but have quite a bit on Zarqawi as well as the interrogator whose team obtained, through humane interrogation, the intel we needed to kill Zarqawi.
The message from bin Laden telling Zarqawi to dial back violence against Muslims was intercepted.
One of the things we did as a psychological operation against Zarqawi was publish video of him we obtained in a raid. It showed him looking stupid, trying unsuccessfully to shoot some captured American weapons. I think one was an M-240 SAW….

The article did not mention Christianity or Christians. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the attacks were committed by people who call themselves Christians, but they might also have been committed by non-religious people.
If Christians are trying to provoke conflict with Muslims by attacking mosques, that is just as bad as ISIS affiliates trying to provoke conflict with Christians. In both cases, they are making it harder for people to trust one another.
Relationships among communities are difficult to build, and easy to destroy. We should never make excuses for anyone who is intentionally trying to sow the seeds of hatred.

Where, above, did I say I had sympathy for murder victims and victims of terrorist attacks? But because your hatred of non-Christians is so intense, you became irate because I didn’t specifically mention that it was a Christian that was murdered. I thought the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Jews was disgusting. I thought the hundreds of thousands of Muslim men, women and children who were killed in an unnecessary war for profit to be reprehensible. Excuse me if I didn’t show enough emotion upon hearing of the death of someone YOU like (you know, white, Christian).

If they were false you would be able to rebut them, but you can’t. Every time I see my copy of The Black Book of Communism on the shelf I chuckle, recalling the first time I quoted it. Your reply was to accuse the authors of being right-wingers.

Take my challenge and see what Christians are doing where you live.
Volunteer to help the needy and you’ll meet oodles of Christian who explode your stereotype. When you experience firsthand what most of these Christians are doing all around you, it will not only help you discard darkness from your heart, but you’ll see the world in a more positive light. Once you understand that you are surrounded by thousands of angels doing wonderful things to help people in need from natural disasters, homelessness or who are just poor, you’ll change for the better and will be a happier person.

And it’s nice that you think you’re tolerant and understanding of others, but you’re not. So far I’ve seen you trash Atheists consistently on this site. I don’t understand it. Atheists don’t hate you. I’m sure they hate hypocritical religious organizations who work to incite hatred in the name of their god. And personally, if the three major religions want to use their hatred of those who “don’t believe in the right god” to kill each other off, I don’t care. And the reason is because 1) I don’t have a dog in this fight, and 2) if the religious folks want to kill each other, I’m sure they’d need no help from me.

See, there you go – assuming I do nothing to help those less fortunate. However, once you understand that Atheists, Muslims and Jews (I mention these three because I’m not familiar with the other faiths) are doing just as much as Christians to help others, perhaps you’ll become more accepting of those “less christian” than yourself. Unfortunately, you’ll probably never hear about it because their God (Jews and Muslims) demands that good deeds be done to obtain favor from their God alone, not man. If you’re helping others simply to prove you’re a better person, or morally superior, then you’re doing it wrong. And I believe that.

Oh, I don’t know. This has been going on so long I doubt it would be a major factor. I think most people of faith, regardless of their religion, would be appalled at this.
(next time try not to let bunya take you on a wild goose chase. When someone tries so hard to avoid the topic at hand, it is a clue telling you they can’t handle it. The thing to do is to redirect their attention back it. In this case, it would be interesting to hear bunya explain why she has no sympathy for an innocent victim of terrorism who had his head chopped off.)

Did I avoid the topic at hand? Because I said that violence isn’t exclusive to the Muslims? I find that those who falsely accuse others of lacking sympathy or empathy, usually have violent, hate-filled tendencies, wanting to project them onto others.

Yes. It is evident violence is not exclusive to Muslims, but you failed to directly address the story at hand – 2 terrorists invaded a church and murdered a priest and IS claimed responsibility.
It was a horrifying, gruesome act that you chose not to speak of.
