Hawaii first state to put gun owners in database

Hawaii gun owners will now be entered into an FBI database.

Gov. David Ige said in a statement that the legislation is about community safety and responsible gun ownership. He said it will help law enforcement agencies protect Hawaii residents and visitors.

State Sen. Will Espero, who introduced the bill, and the Honolulu Police Department said the measure could serve as a model for other states. However, critics believe gun owners shouldn’t have to be entered in a database to practice a constitutional right.

Most people entered in the program, known as the “Rap Back” database, are in “positions of trust,” such as school teachers and bus drivers Stephen Fischer of the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division said in May. Hawaii is the first to add gun owners.

Supporters say the law would make Hawaii a leader in safe gun laws. Allison Anderman, a staff attorney at the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said the bill was “groundbreaking,” and that she hadn’t heard of other states introducing similar measures.

I doubt that Obama takes credit for what Hawaii does.

    “database” sounds so sinister.

If you drive a car, you are in a database. It just means you filled out a form.

    License. Register. Insure. Secure.

Those four simple things would save thousands of lives.

I know that some 2nd amendment zealots will protest. But the fact is that damn near everything we do is recorded in a database.

Make a phone call and it is recorded in a database so you can be billed at the end of the month.

Busy some groceries using your ATM card. The amount you spent and what you bought ends up in several databases.

Order a pay per view movie and you are in a database.

Take out a mortgage to buy a house. Take out a loan to buy a card. You are in a database.

Voter id advocates insist that you not only be in a database, but prove you are in the right database in order to vote.

The list is endless. NRA hysterics need to sit down and STFU.

All computers should be registered and their owners need to be put in a database.

where do you think you ALREADY are?

online and you’re already in a database (note the sponsor’s ads that appear on your screen)

do you ever read the ‘agreements’ clauses?

Really? On a daily basis, how many die due to computers? Comprehension is not your strong suit, get off the computer and walk away slowly.

Your IP address without which you cannot exchange data over the internet is in a database. Your email address is in a database. If you use a Microsoft Windows computer, the serial # of your copy of the operating system along with the serial# of the CPU in your laptop or computer are in a database at Microsoft. I have never built Apple machines, but I suspect Apple has a similar setup to prevent privacy of their OS. Your attempt at sarcasm is already a fact of life.

They are…you just don’t know anything about how computers interact with each other, so you come here and spew idiocy a 5th grade science student knows is untrue…

LOL, you are, and sad that you do not comprehend such a basic fact…
Drive a car, use a credit card, buy something, log onto a website, etc.etc.etc…

How true…log into your email from any device…it will never forget you and will keep a record forever (unless you do a complete wipe) Google, cell towers, satellites, etc., never forget where they once say you log on…be it a website, your disqus account, email, bank. IM….there is no getting away from the man…!

This is funny. I never thought of Hawaii as a bastion of gun crime.

It’s not simply because they have the strictest gun laws in the country…kind of a no brainer…
