NY Times editorial: NRA complicit in terrorism

Posted by | June 16, 2016 18:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

It’s no secret that the NRA has been against every effort to enhance gun safety and keep guns out of the hands of those who are not equipped to have them.

And yet the N.R.A. rejects these steps, even though it says that terrorists shouldn’t be able to get guns. Instead, it clings to the absurd fantasy that a heavily-armed populace is the best way to keep Americans safe. That failed in Orlando, where an armed security guard was on the scene but could not stop the slaughter.

Most of the rest of the world figured this out long ago. But in the United States, the gun industry and its enablers continue to insist that the only solution is more guns, and more bullets flying.

The gun industry lobbyists may be beyond reason, but the lawmakers have a duty to respond to their constituents. Unfortunately, after each new massacre, far too many offer nothing more than condolences and moments of silence. That silence is killing us.

Every time I see that photo, two things always come to mind:

      1) This idiot severely restricted his side to side field of fire…

      2) Is that his mommy next to him waiting to give him a ride home to his basement bedroom in her house?

OK…three things…Why isn’t this f*ck doing hard time for threatening federal officials?

      • Mensa Member June 16th, 2016 at 18:33

I have the same reaction. It’s just absurd.

While I agree with the sentiment of the text, I suspect that the police just dismissed him as someone posing for the cameras rather than a genuine threat.

      • Suzanne McFly June 16th, 2016 at 20:32

Yeah, the restricted view he is giving himself shows this guy has never had to use a gun, it has always been a choice.

    • Ron Theison June 16th, 2016 at 23:53

You mean like Lois Lerner or any other number of Obama administration members?

      • Mensa Member June 17th, 2016 at 00:16

Lois Lerner? Really? You’re grasping at straws.

That was just another fake Fox scandal. Lois Lerner was fully investigated and did not commit any crimes.

Crimeny! Do you uncritically believe everything Fox and Newsmax says? They’re playing you for the chump.

This fun. You are a miserable piece of detritus.

        IRS targeted NAACP in 2004

By KELSEY SNELL | 5/13/13 4:51 PM EDT

This isn’t the first time the IRS has been in hot water for meddling in the politics of nonprofits. And if past is prelude, the Obama administration may have a years-long scandal on its hands.

        IRS targeted Church in 2005;

In 2004, a preacher at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, Calif., delivered an anti-war sermon. The 3,500-member church found itself under investigation, but was able to beat back the agency after hiring high-powered Washington attorneys and soliciting support from conservative and liberal religious groups.

        http://articles.glendalenewspress.com/2006-02-17/news/gnp-pollandscape17_1_glassell-park-irs-surveys

In 2004, the NAACP was hit with an audit over accusations of improper political activity for criticizing the Bush administration.

        http://www.politico.com/story/2013/05/irs-targeted-naacp-in-2004-91284.html

In 2004, the Wall Street Journal reported that the IRS audited Greenpeace at the request of Public Interest Watch, a group that’s funded by Exxon-Mobil.

        http://online.wsj.com/article/SB114291044305003774.html

        The Bush IRS Collected Political Affiliation Data on Taxpayers;

In 2006, a contractor hired by the IRS collected party affiliation via a search of voter registration rolls in a laundry list of states: Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin. This begs the obvious question: why? Why would the IRS need voter registration and party affiliation information?

So, to actually threaten groups, causing them to incur legal fees, because they oppose the White House’s policies is on par with telling staff of the exemption dept, to be on the look out for certain political names, (when exemption does not apply to political groups), AFTER the SCOTUS changed the law so that the number of such groups quadrupled, while YOUR staff did not increase?

(And there are always many more groups who form in opposition to the President’s party).

White privileged- The assumption that that the court will rule “self-defense” even though the person you shoot had to make a point of standing directly in front of your muzzle….

  2. Obewon June 16th, 2016 at 21:10

Terrorist organization NRA & Pratt’s Gun Humpers of ‘Merica are complicit in terrorism.

  3. Red Mann June 16th, 2016 at 22:41

“The gun industry lobbyists may be beyond reason, but the lawmakers have a duty to respond to their constituents.”
The common thread here – money. Gun manufacturers give lobbyists money, lobbyists give lawmakers money, lawmakers block all gun legislation. NRA, stooges for the gun manufacturers stirs up the idiot gun nuts who buy more guns which makes money for the gun manufacturers. Repeat and repeat and repeat.
Effect on the rest of us – more dead Americans, more dead toddlers, more dead people shot by toddlers, more dead people shot by nut cases. Repeat and repeat and repeat.

  4. Ron Theison June 16th, 2016 at 23:51

What a crock of an editorial. Was the NRA also responsible for the massacre in Paris where the terrorists had fully automatic firearms? The fact is terrorists will get their weapons regardless of what the laws are and if they can’t get guns they will use bombs, or cars, or airplanes.

    • Mensa Member June 17th, 2016 at 00:12

So, you think giving highly lethal weapons to terrorists is a GOOD idea?

What the hell is wrong with you?

      • whatthe46 June 17th, 2016 at 01:41

i’m beginning to think it’s tRump.

      • Ron Theison June 17th, 2016 at 08:20

No, I do not think that.

    • whatthe46 June 17th, 2016 at 01:39

um, question, you little shriveled up raisin sack fk, does the NRA control Europe? nope. McVeigh, the “christian” murdered over 150 people, including babies, with a fucking bomb. roof, he was a fucking terrorist. his sperm donor gave him the weapon he used to murder 9 people in their house of worship.

      • fahvel June 17th, 2016 at 03:12

        bravo!!!!!!

      • Ron Theison June 17th, 2016 at 08:19

Yes, a BOMB, not a gun. Yes, he was a terrorist. We don’t make excuses for them like you do for Muslims. Good grief, as for SC it was the scumbag behind the gun that did it, not the gun. Why can’t you understand that?

Look, if the NRA is complicit, so is Hillary and your Obama – their foreign policy blunders did indeed make it possible for ISIS to rise. Where does the blame game stop?

        • whatthe46 June 17th, 2016 at 09:08

yes a damn bomb! and no one makes excuses for muslims, but all you RWNJ’s make excuses for your sick minded murdering and child raping “christians.” and if the bastard wasn’t able to have in his possession an AK, which isn’t used for personal protection, but the annihilation of human life in droves, these people would be alive today. and stop with the Hillary and Obama crap. that sh*t is seriously old as dirt. the NRA has been around and spewing the same disgusting messages long before Obama came into the picture and it’s the fuckin’ RWNJ’s that are in the pockets of the NRA.

          • Ron Theison June 17th, 2016 at 16:16

No. Not only that, but Obama just signed a deal with Iran (the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world) not too long ago that will net them billions of dollars and in the end a nuke. How’s that for stupidity of the highest order?

    • fahvel June 17th, 2016 at 03:12

you ignorant troll!!!! the Paris shootings here were terrible and a one off affair. In your frightened community shooting is as popular as a fkn BBQ.

      • Ron Theison June 17th, 2016 at 16:12

A one off affair? How about Charlie Hebdo? Or the police Inspector and his wife – did you forget about them?

    • Bunya June 17th, 2016 at 14:20

There’s no doubt that ISIS, ISIL and all other terrorist groups are big fans of the NRA, and you bet if there’s money to be had selling killing devices to known killers, the NRA will be around to offer them only the finest in automatic weaponry.

  5. William June 17th, 2016 at 01:24

It’s a nasty little cycle. The arms industry buys the NRA, the NRA buys the politicians. http://www.nracongress.com/all-nra-recipients.html BTW, this list was recently updated.

    • whatthe46 June 17th, 2016 at 01:34

that is so damn vile. really? i mean, not surprised, but, WTF? and of course, not a single dime went to any rehab, that children were the casualty of b.s. to assist their recovery.

      • William June 17th, 2016 at 01:36

Which is why I think there should be a superfund set up and funded by the gun manufacturers. I’ve already used the link to confront my elected representatives.

        • whatthe46 June 17th, 2016 at 01:41

you’re a good man William. thanks.

    • bpollen June 17th, 2016 at 04:51

What’s the Blue Book value of a Senator?

  6. Larry Schmitt June 17th, 2016 at 07:07

Eh, what do they know, they’re just the lamestream liberal media.

  7. CHOCOL8MILK June 17th, 2016 at 20:53

Guns are a cash cow. Taking that cash cow away from the gun industry, NRA, and politicians will be like teaching pigs how to fly. As long as the gun industry can afford lobbyists (who are mostly former politicians) and bribes-I mean campaign donations, a comprehensive gun bill will not be passed by congress.
