Body found of bo snatched by Alligator at Disney

Update: Body of boy found

… the Orlando police confirmed the body has been found and identified the toddler’s name as Lane Graves.

Efforts are continuing to find the child.

The child was on the edge of the lagoon when the alligator dragged him into the water, according to the boy’s family, said Florida Fish & Wildlife executive director Nick Wiley. He cautioned that the investigation is still in an early stage and that officials need to interview at least two other families who may have witnessed the incident.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said the child was “wading … along the lake’s edge at the time that the alligator attacked.”

Williamson said the boy was in less than a foot of water.

This is horrible. My heart goes out to the parents.

There are a lot of tourists that go to Florida not aware that these alligators could be wondering around.

I know this is a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time but they need signs. Big signs warning about the dangers of alligators.

I guess they have a sign that says “No Swimming” but that is no where near enough when a danger like this could be present.

We have noticed over the last couple of decades here that they have lost any fear of humans from the close proximity over time.
It also has a bit to do with the “tourists” who think it’s cute to fed them. Once you do they consider the area to be the kitchen, small animals and children the menu.

Ever pond here has a gator.

I’ve seen a number of stories where people have ended up killing wild animals by taking stupid “selfies” with them. Creatures like this are not something to interact with, ever! If I saw one, I’d be running in the opposite direction!

Lost their sense of fear since it is the humans who have reduced the area where they live.

If there were signs posted, nobody would pay attention. I remember in Alaska a few years back, a woman decided to jog through the forest. Even though there were at least 7 huge signs that said, “BEWARE OF BEARS” at the entrance, she decided to jog anyway. She was mauled by a mother bear protecting her cubs. The mother bear was killed and the babies were sent to zoos.

now that was just plain wrong to kill the mother bear. it wasn’t her fault.

I know. I saw it on the Animal Planet, and I was pissed.

i’m pissed just hearing it. humans do stupid crap and innocent animals pay the price.

I play golf in Orlando every year. There are more and more gators as time goes by. There are gators in Hilton Head, there are gators all over the South. People need to be aware…and afraid of them, even the ‘small’ ones.

    • mistlesuede June 15th, 2016 at 11:43

What is the reason for this? Does it have something to do with the waters being warmer do to climate change or is it something else?

      • Budda June 15th, 2016 at 11:49

I don’t know. Maybe it’s because they aren’t hunted as much.

        • rat618 June 15th, 2016 at 12:09

You take away large amounts of their natural habitat and what are they supposed to do? Check into the Disney hotels?

      • amongoose June 15th, 2016 at 19:26

Why so many? Were tropical. We have salt water crocs. in the south.
No real winter, a couple of weeks or so. Below freezing is a rarity.

This is an image of the beach at this resort. I had no idea that people were encouraged to play and swim in any lakes in that area. As anyone who lives in Florida knows, gators are always to be considered in a fresh water pond or lake, and this is a fairly large lake, so likely has many gators.
It seems to be the height of irresponsibility to have such a beach, open at night, to encourage families and small children to play in the water…
it was a tragedy waiting to happen!
We Floridians understand the danger of gators, but tourists do not, so it is up to resorts to warn and protect their guests..

Shouldn’t all the Disney complex be a safe space for children?

  5. whatthe46 June 15th, 2016 at 16:52

wait. this was the place where this baby was snatched? why would a resort have something like this as an attraction if it’s known for having alligators? why not install nets of some sort to keep them out? this makes no sense and is avoidable.

    • eyelashviper June 15th, 2016 at 17:04

It is mind boggling. It’s quite amazing that no one was attacked before now. Never have I seen such idiocy in putting people and young children in danger…..ANY fresh water sources in Florida are gator infested, and they are stealth predators, lurking and waiting for prey to get close. Some small child walking and splashing in shallow water at night is just what would attract them.

      • whatthe46 June 15th, 2016 at 17:14

this is beautiful and very attractive and makes absolutely no sense to have something so inviting, when they are clearly aware of the dangers, open to the public. it’s completely mind boggling. i can’t even begin to imagine what this family is going through.

Local news reported that the child’s body has been found about 320 feet off shore.
That lagoon and the others are ringed with NO SWIMMING signs.

    What’s a bo?

    • Mensa Member June 15th, 2016 at 22:55

      And why is “Alligator” capped?

  8. Mensa Member June 15th, 2016 at 22:51

How many people actually saw this happen? Something about this story seems hinky.
