Michael Brown’s mom: ‘Judging my son by one clip isn’t fair’

Lezley McSpadden, mother of Michael Brown, the Ferguson teen shot by Officer Darren Wilson, talked to me on radio Wednesday night about her book Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil.

MCSPADDEN: You had one little clip to try to try to judge my son’s whole 18 years and that’s not fair to him.

COLMES: What do you think when you see that clip?

MCSPADDEN: I think it’s overrated.

COLMES: Yeah, one moment in a person’s life.

MCSPADDEN: Yes, sir. It’s very overrated. And it’s not telling a clear story. It’s not giving people a clear understanding of if and when and what happened there…

COLMES: So what was that day like for you? What happened to you and for you that day?

MCSPADDEN: August 9th?

COLMES: Yes

MCSPADDEN: I continue to ask people, so you see me, do you hear me? Can I touch you can you feel me? Because I feel like I died. I don’t feel human anymore, I don’t feel like a real person.

From personal experience, There is nothing that can sooth the loss of a child…nothing…no words, no gift, not even talking about it…the pain is deep, and permanent…

I am so sad for your loss. My grandmother lost her firstborn when he was 68 from cancer. At that time, she had lived through losing her parents, loved brother, friends, and other family including her husband. She told me that losing a child was the hardest thing she had ever been forced to do. I am sorry any parent has to go through that.
