Anonymous congressman’s tell-all

Posted by | May 12, 2016 10:30 | Filed under: Politics

It’s unclear who wrote this, but one claim is that it’s a Democratic congressman.

A new book threatens to blow the lid off of Congress as a legislator has penned a tell-all about the worst parts of serving in the House of Representatives – saying that his main job is to raise money for re-election and that leaves little time for reading the bills he votes on.

Mill City Press, a small Minnesota-based ‘vanity press’ publisher describes ‘The Confessions of Congressman X’ as  ‘a devastating inside look at the dark side of Congress as revealed by one of its own.’

‘No wonder Congressman X wants to remain anonymous for fear of retribution. His admissions are deeply disturbing.’

I forget who it was or when, but I recently saw another congressman explaining how that’s exactly how it worked.
Tons of time spent trying to raise money from big money interests, barely any time to concentrate on the actual job they were elected to.

It’s just one more giant piece to the enormous puzzle that is our f*ked up politics that needs to be fixed.

Lobbyists should be banned from supplying or receiving any gifts, money or otherwise.
All elective offices should be banned from raising money from lobbyists, corporations, industries, etc.. public support only.

We’re so lost in the woods it’s despicable and we need to find our way out.

I posted this story when I seen it a couple months ago, it is a great segment to watch….http://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-are-members-of-congress-becoming-telemarketers/

      • Kick Frenzy May 12th, 2016 at 23:59

Yup, I think that’s the one I saw.
        Thanks!

It should be required viewing in High School classes or something.

Everyone should watch it, we need to know why nothing is being done in Congress. If the population knew what was going on, they may start actually voting.

Just one more reason to vote for Bernie.
The amount of “Berniecrat” politicians running for office seems to be growing quickly, too… which means a start of getting it out of Congress.

            We so f*king need this.

            • Suzanne McFly May 14th, 2016 at 09:20

I feel the same way but it seems like the democratic party won’t allow Bernie to be the nominee. Voters love Bernie, the establishment does not. I think he scares them, he will go after their donors.

              • Kick Frenzy May 16th, 2016 at 23:59

I have almost no doubt about you being right.
It’s kind of impressive that he’s been able to do as well as he has.

On the other hand, I was just looking at some maps and it turns out Hillary is winning most of the states Romney won versus Obama.
While Bernie is winning mostly Obama states.
                So… that’s also… interesting.

Well she is a centrist and many republicans would prefer her over rump. They are probably thinking they can beat her in 4 years and that will be easier then trying to answer for all of rumps eff ups in 4 years. That is what makes sense to me, but this whole thing has been so out of whack, I may be completely off on my assessments.

                  • Kick Frenzy May 18th, 2016 at 01:21

Unfortunately, being popular in mostly Red states doesn’t bode well for the general election.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic.

                    • Suzanne McFly May 18th, 2016 at 07:09

I would do anything to have Bernie, but that ship seems to have sailed. Now I will do anything to not have rump.

                    • Kick Frenzy May 18th, 2016 at 23:24

                      Right on.

If Hillary gets the nomination, I wouldn’t begrudge anyone voting for her in order to stop Trump.
I would if I could, but I can’t bring myself to vote for her.

I struggled with that for months.
Knowing that if she lacks the votes, Trump could become our president.
But I finally decided, I couldn’t be at peace with my soul if I voted for Hillary.
So, as much as it pains me to say it, I’m not a “Blue or Bust” voter… not when Hillary is so damn Red in the middle.

Sorry, I started getting carried away there.
Point is, don’t lose hope… Hillary probably won’t get enough pledged delegates to clinch the nom before the convention, so it could always turn.
(Granted, with Debbie Wasserman “who the hell let this #^$* be party chair” Shultz in charge, we’re all screwed anyway. What with her ‘awesome’ idea to get Republicans and lobbyists to host the Dem convention in Philly. Seriously… WHAT. THE. EVER. LIVING. F*CK?!?)

    • Mike May 12th, 2016 at 13:27

I think it was a John Oliver segment you’re talking about.

Even if you’re only running a small $1 million campaign that means you have to raise $20k a week…IDK what the fix is…we can’t afford to fund campaigns …??

Lobbying should be illegal … it is nothing more than what it looks like…paid access to an elected official meant to influence his/her vote … I have nothing against milk and cows are great…but they can’t vote, so why should a dairy farmer in NY be able to influence how a senator in CA votes…???

      • Kick Frenzy May 13th, 2016 at 00:13

        Agreed.
There needs to be an overhaul.

I don’t know how anyone can look at the current system and go, “…yeah… that looks fair.”

  2. Suzanne McFly June 9th, 2016 at 15:08

I just seen this reply, for some reason my account switches back and forth on its own. I understand your anger, but you have to realize it is between Hillary and rump. Not voting is a vote for rump IMO. Hillary is too red for me also, but she is not rump and she has been pulled to the left (as well as the democratic party) due to Bernie and I love he used his power for good.

    • Kick Frenzy June 10th, 2016 at 00:37

Good timing to reply now, what with recent events. :)

But, I’m not saying I won’t vote… far from it.
It’s just instead of voting for crappy to avoid crappier, I plan on either writing in Bernie or voting for Jill Stein.

Plus, I sincerely doubt Hillary will stay anywhere near as left as she’s saying she is.
I could be proven wrong, but her track record supports the opposite of many of her current positions, which oh-so coincidentally evolved shortly after this campaign season started up.

      • whatthe46 June 10th, 2016 at 00:54

“It’s just instead of voting for crappy to avoid crappier, I plan on either writing in Bernie or voting for Jill Stein.” clearly you don’t give a damn about our country. you are so NOT a dem.

        • Kick Frenzy June 11th, 2016 at 02:53

Lmao… and Hilary is supposed to represent what Dems are about?
          Like sh*t, she is.

          • Kick Frenzy June 11th, 2016 at 02:56

Both Bernie and Jill Stein are more of a Democrat than Hillary has ever been.

      • Suzanne McFly June 10th, 2016 at 10:40

I had reservations due to her previous stances and that is why I supported Bernie. I think she realizes we need to make a shift to the left and I will believe that until she proves otherwise. I am a hopeless optimist and I can not change :)

        • Kick Frenzy June 11th, 2016 at 02:55

She realizes she needs to shift left for votes.
More power to you on the optimism thing, I’m optimistic about a lot of things myself.
But Hillary has done almost nothing to convince me she’s cares about being a Democrat, much less moving left of center.

Especially when, late last year, she stated the country needed to move more to the moderate center.

          • Suzanne McFly June 11th, 2016 at 20:09

She is considering Warren right now, she has learned we need to go left or she won’t win 2 terms. We have been pulled right for a couple decades, we need to go back left now to fix all the eff ups.

            • Kick Frenzy June 12th, 2016 at 18:43

              I don’t believe it for a second.
I think she knows she had to appear to head left, but don’t count on her staying there.
It’s more likely that Warren will drift right than pull Hillary to the left.

I only say that because she has endorsed Hillary.
It makes no sense that she would endorse Hillary over Bernie, when considering policy positions and expressed ideals.
It only makes sense that she waited to see who was going to win, whether to refrain from effecting primaries or to hedge her bets so she came out on the side of the presumpt(uous)ive winner.

Either way, Warrens behavior has left me disappointed.

But you are right that the entire country needs to head more to the left.
Which is why I’m seriously thinking I may vote Green come November.
I’d even forgive Bernie for switching over if he wanted to.
Which reminds me, Dr. Jill Stein is a woman of serious conviction… enough so that she would move over and let Bernie take the top spot in the Green party if he wants it.

              • Suzanne McFly June 12th, 2016 at 21:52

No way in hell will Warren go right, she wants to take on big business and end their destruction of the middle class. She endorsed Hillary when there was no chance for Bernie. We need to get rid of the Electoral College, but until then we just need to band together so we can right these wrongs.

I threw away a vote for Ralph Nader, not going to repeat that mistake.

                • Kick Frenzy June 13th, 2016 at 21:11

By all means, vote however your conscious tells you to vote.
I certainly won’t fault you for it. :)

But I feel like Warren has already compromised her position by standing with Hillary.
It’s been noted time and time again how Warren was at odds with Hillary’s ideals and positions, now she’s all smiles and hugs.
It just doesn’t feel right to me.

On the other hand, maybe she will stay true to her beliefs and be able to pull Hillary to the left.
She certainly would have a hard time claiming to be true to her ideals if Hillary doesn’t go left (and stay there) though.

                  • Suzanne McFly June 14th, 2016 at 10:22

Politics is messy and makes strange bedfellows. I think Hillary is a candidate who will take the road to the left as long as it is safe, and this road is wide open right now. I am keeping the faith.
