Miracle? Oil coming from icon of John the Baptist

Posted by | May 1, 2016 10:23 | Filed under: Religion

Orthodox Christians believe it’s a miracle.

According to the Chicago Tribune, tiny drops of sweet-smelling oil have been trickling down an icon of John the Baptist at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Homer Glen. The parishioners believe the droplets have healing properties.

Parish priest Rev Sotirios Dimitriou – known as Father Sam – said: “The first thing out of my mouth was ‘What do I do?’ You don’t expect anything like this. It’s breathtaking. It’s so powerful to see such an act of God before your eyes.”

No, a miracle would be if the icon got up and walked. This can be explained. If the same thing happened at the Lincoln Memorial, would people talk about a “miracle?”

Well one said something similar to your “oil is oil” and went onto say you need God and a pure heart to make it holy. So my question is why not just use the oil in your cabinet then?

It still amuses me that various religious groups protested the showing of that movie. Jesus himself would laugh at it, I’m sure.

The Life of Brian always amused me….
It’s like finally, someone else finds theses fairy tails they drove into our minds during Sunday school, and mock them…
Even as a little kid I just couldn’t believe it..

There are videos available on Youtube with the Python boys discussing the movie with some British clerics. It’s amusing to see how insulted some of them are.
