Christian parents respond to school taking Bible verse off website with ‘Our God is bigger’

Posted by | April 15, 2016 15:06 | Filed under: Politics Religion

A Texas school district didn’t understand the concept of separation of church and state.

Texas parents are upset that a public school district has taken a Bible verse off its website after atheists complained, according to the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Troup Independent School District had the biblical phrase, “As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him,” from the Old Testament, on their website until the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a letter complaining it violates the Constitution by promoting Christianity.

In response, Christian parents created T-shirts that say, “Our God is bigger.”

Larry, I would show you mine, (hehehe) if I didn’t think I would get banned for life on this web site.

Wait, what? What has been going on here? This is still a political website right? I leave for the day, come back and all this sex talk is going on, I don’t think I will leave again lol.

        • Larry Schmitt April 15th, 2016 at 16:45

I didn’t say anything about sex. That’s all in your head, Suzanne. Where it belongs.

          • Suzanne McFly April 15th, 2016 at 17:56

Well going by “you show me yours and I will show you mine” it seems sexual to anyone who was a curious kid.

            • Larry Schmitt April 15th, 2016 at 18:02

But it wouldn’t stand up in a court of law (so to speak).

              • Suzanne McFly April 15th, 2016 at 19:59

You have a way with words Larry lol.

It was designed to be a secular country under a secular Constitution. Even the law of the land says this country was NOT based on the christian religion.
But then, facts don’t matter to the crazies.

I’m not sure which “god” should be more pissed off; Jehovah for these “christians” misinterpreting the Scriptures, or Mammon, for not getting actual name recognition.

Twain died in 1910 I believe, at some point in his career he pointed out that the saying “In god we trust” was a lie”. That for the last 50 yrs we believed in the dollar and the republican party, mainly the dollar.

what I find encouraging is that the number of atheists and agnostics is the second largest group, just after the fruit cakes, in the nation. At one time, I had to remain silent about being an atheist.

I am fine with the kids wearing the tee shirts, but we have a separation of church and state…..religion does not belong in our government. We have never been a Christian nation.

Ecclesiastical establishments tend to great ignorance and corruption, all of which facilitate the execution of mischievous projects.

        — James Madison, letter to Bradford, January 1774

Madison knew of the danger of laws base on religion. He needed only to look back to the history of Europe and the constant wars and millions dead over it.

It’s good to see you clems.

        • clemans April 16th, 2016 at 10:19

I agree with him. Religion does two things that I can think of with little effort, it gives justification to small minded people for hating anything they want to hate. It also is, from seeing the mega churches, an easy way to separate a fool and their money.

Think I remember reading “wherever two or more meet in the name of the lord, that is a church” or words to that effect. With the Bible including over 3,000 times where it say we need to take care of the poor, I doubt seriously if there was a god that he would be proud that people put money into worshiping by sight instead of using that money to feed and help the poor.

      • bpollen April 16th, 2016 at 16:12

Generally, I think it is fine if you believe whatever fractured fairy tale you want (full disclosure: Scientologists are victims of a bad space opera hack and huckster – it ain’t a religion.) It’s when those delusions starts to impinge on my world that I have problems. You believe some ancient goat-herd has the last word on what kind of sex is allowable? That’s fine, your delusions are your own. You believe that some ancient goat-herd gets to decide what kind of sex *I* have? F U and the goat you rode in on!

(When I say “you” here, I mean the generic “you”, not you specifically.)

        • clemans April 16th, 2016 at 18:05

well, good you weren’t talking about me because I am an atheist……if I was going to believe in a religion and make believe things, it would all be things I picked……and in my religion, I would never have to clean the bathroom or kitchen again!

My God is smarter than your honor roll student.
My God will kick your god’s ass.

They never explain, bigger than what? Since the bible is supposed to be divinely inspired did god actually inspire Samuel to write in American vernacular in his first book Ch. 17 Verse 48?

  11. Mensa Member April 16th, 2016 at 18:09

I’m a devout Christian and and a dedicated supporter of the separation of church and state. I want a high wall between the two.

To me it’s a win-win situation. A very high wall is good for the church and good for the state.

A public school has no business putting religious texts on their website. Even if that religion is mine.

That is their response, to dress like an ass?
