San Francisco approves fully-paid paternal leave

It’s the first city in the country to do so.

California is already one of only a few states that offer paid parental leave, with workers receiving 55 percent of their pay for six weeks, paid for by employee-financed public disability insurance. The new law in San Francisco, passed unanimously by the city’s Board of Supervisors, mandates full pay, with the 45 percent difference being paid by employers.

Obviously this is a good thing. But…

We have to stop rewarding people for having children. There are too many of us.

Plus, it’s just another way society tells childless people they are less valuable than those who produce. As a childless adult I am far more productive than that child everyone is celebrating (especially since I am expected to do the work of two people when you are off on your publicly funded vacation).

As a childless adult I am constantly told in small ways and large (using work rules and tax codes) that I’m not pulling my weight. But if I were to knock up some random woman and convince her to squat out another human being into this festering soup, suddenly I’m invaluable to society and I get showered with benefits.
