Unmarried people having sex in Mississippi now subject to discrimination

Because RELIGIOUS FREEDOM!

Tuesday morning, Gov. Phil Bryant (R) signed HB 1523 into law, endorsing a veritable catalog of discrimination against LGBT people and even those who have sex before marriage.

“This bill does not limit any constitutionally protected rights or actions of any citizen of this state under federal or state laws,” Bryant claimed in a statement. “The legislation is designed in the most targeted manner possible to prevent government interference in the lives of the people from which all power to the state is derived.”

What that means is that almost any imaginable form of discrimination against same-sex couples, people who identify as transgender, or anyone who has had non-marital sex is now protected behavior under the law, so long as the discriminating individual has a “sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction.” Most notably, this includes shelter provided by religious organizations, any form of pro-LGBT counseling or medical support, any employer’s dress code or bathroom regulations, and any business related to the recognition of any marriage.

It is odd to me, it seems like the biggest freaks are the ones trying to put laws on our bedroom activities. If they want to pass laws to force people to live by the “religious views” of our holier than thou politicians, you would think they would be practicing those beliefs themselves. What is that quote about glass houses and stones, I believe it applies here.

Mississippi–What an awful place where to live

    • Suzanne McFly April 5th, 2016 at 21:21

It is only awful if you are not a white, male redneck. For that group, Mississippi is a great place to live.

      • Gina Bousquet April 5th, 2016 at 21:31

Right on target! How could I forget that group?! :)

        • Suzanne McFly April 5th, 2016 at 21:45

We can’t forget that group because they are the loudest ones always shooting at someone. That is a hard group to ignore.

  6. StoneyCurtisll April 5th, 2016 at 22:49

    Whats next?…
    No music, no dancing?

    • Jimmy Fleck April 6th, 2016 at 10:15

Lets say a hotel has complaints about loud music and dancing coming from one of their rooms. Would it be legal for the hotel to ask those people to leave? Would that be discrimination on the part of the hotel against music and dancing?

Trying to legislate sex is like trying to legislate the tides, doesn’t work..

In the 1970’s the Prime Minister of Canada (Pierre Elliot Trudeau) said the Government has no business in the bedrooms of the nation. Its about time Mississippi got with the program

Good ‘ole Mississippi, interracial get kicked out of housing, having sex and not married is cause for discrimination! Will being Black be a crime, next?

I have a sincerely held religious bias against stupid people. I guess that means I can discriminate against the whole state of Mississippi.

Till I saw the draft which was of 8135 dollars, I accept that my friend’s brother was like really generating cash in his free time with his pc..vq His aunt’s neighbor has been doing this for 11 months and by now repaid the loan on their house and purchased a new Car .

That’s pretty accurate for me, too. One reason why I’m not drawn to states in the deep south. Although, I live in Louisiana. Only reason I’m here is because everyone I know is here.

  12. Larry Schmitt April 6th, 2016 at 07:43

So evidently the right to discriminate is protected by the Constitution. Who knew?

    • allison1050 April 6th, 2016 at 08:31

I must have missed that section since I tend to speed read from time to time.

I would just like to know how you plan on spotting all these people that you plan on denying business to. How do you know one way or another if a couple has had sex, really? There’s a whole lot of scenarios that run through my mind that mainly involve assumption or blunt honesty from the customer. Say, a couple asking for a marriage license has a child with them. You assume the child was born out of wedlock, which would mean premarital sex, right? What if the child’s mother or father was deceased, and the other parent is now getting remarried. You can only assume they’ve had sex before. Or what if the child was adopted by one party, and they’ve found a partner to marry after the fact? I mean, what are you going to do…Ask someone their life story before you agree to do business with them? This is just stupid. If you want to pick and choose who to provide business to, don’t get a business license. Matter of fact, just don’t get a job where your job duties conflict with your morals. I’m straight, but I’m pro-LGBT. You wouldn’t see me working for an anti-LGBT group, would you? No…It goes against my morals.

    • Larry Schmitt April 6th, 2016 at 10:28

If you want to discriminate against people you think are immoral, open a private club, then you can ask all sorts of personal question, and deny entry to all those icky gays and unmarried sex havers.

      • Jodie April 6th, 2016 at 10:32

Yeah, exactly! Although, they’re not very smart business people if they deny a normal customer just based on who they’re sleeping with. Besides, if you believe in God, then I’d think that God has better things to worry about than who someone is sleeping with.

I guess I can now move to Mississippi, open an establishment, and discriminate against all republicans – especially republican politicians.
