    Civilian death toll in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos estimated between 1.5 – 2 million. I knew a young lady who came here from Laos toward the end of the war. As she put it so eloquently “What Americans call collateral damage, I call family and friends”.

      I wonder if fewer Americans would be in favor of all of our “adventures” if we called civilian deaths and maimings by their true name, instead of inventing euphemisms that allow the commanders to sleep at night.

        Another euphemism I hate is “acceptable loss”. 75 lives lost are okay, but 76 would require a little more thought?

      This (collateral damage) has happened since the dawn of time and no one lays claim to the numbers, never have and never will. Imagine how unpopular war would be if the numbers (total deaths and total dollars) reflected the reality. The rich would have to figure out other ways to make money and gain power.

    They have to, if people found out what was really going on in other places, if there human, they should feel a little sick!
