Poll: 67% Support President On Guns

Posted by | January 7, 2016 20:00 | Filed under: Politics

A CNN/ORC poll just out shows the public broadly supportive of the president taking action on guns, although they question whether those measures go far enough to make a difference.

[The] poll finds 67% say they favor the changes Obama announced, and 32% oppose them. Support for the executive actions, designed to expand background checks to cover more gun purchases made online or at gun shows and to make it easier for the FBI to complete background checks efficiently, comes across party lines, with majorities of Democrats (85%), independents (65%) and Republicans (51%) in favor of them. Majorities back the measures across most demographic groups, in fact, including 57% of gun owners and 56% of rural residents.

Those who strongly favor the changes outnumber those who are strongly opposed by about a 2-to-1 margin: 43% say they are strongly in favor, 21% strongly opposed.

Imagine that, the real silent majority is for common sense restriction on guns.

Do they understand that President Obama supports these proposals? How was it worded?

  3. Obewon January 7th, 2016 at 20:27

Even a majority of “Republicans (51% polled) in favor” of POTUS Obama’s Executive Order:)

And, yet, the NRA owns the Congress.

And the electorate can’t add up why nothing changes, refusing to make their representation represent them.

And the corporate right wing media was trying to say one day recently that the numbers of people who would support his new plans would not be as good because of the terrorist attack in Paris! Perhaps Americans realize they just went through the entire holiday season with a President who is keeping us safe and did again. Perhaps they believe he is looking out for their best interests.
I watched the town hall tonight with Anderson Cooper. The President was great. I felt he handled the NRA loving mom who had been raped very delicately and shut down her stupid question easily, but nicely. I hope people saw the town hall because these numbers will climb after that.
I turned it off immediately when the talking heads started their BS.

So this poll you believe because…?

  7. The Original Just Me January 8th, 2016 at 03:08

If two thirds of the people back Pres. Obama on this, why do the Retardicans keep saying ” All of the People” ? I believe the Pollsters.

They should be immediately corrected…do you mean SOME people, not all?

I do that to and it really has an affect that is hard to describe.

I don’t mind universal background checks, and fixing the background check system (millions of people who shouldn’t get guns can pass a background check because of states slack on supplying records), but come on, we can’t just bypass congress to make laws, that’s a very slippery slope, regardless if people agree with the laws or not.

With what republicans want for guns, it would be like roads with no rules, no speed limits and drivers with no licences.

there are many gun owners that don’t support the NRA …the majority of america is with obama I am glad he is taking what action that he can…..he just can’t do it all by himself…if people want gun control they must vote out the GOP…so that law makers can come to the table and end the NRA’s “carte blanche”….

  12. maggie January 8th, 2016 at 19:04

the way our laws are set up….men go by lots of guns to be “straw purchasers” and they sell the guns to men who can’t pass a background check….this gap in the law is due to law makers rolling over for the NRA

The polls back the people not the president and just because the liberal lying media says so don’t make it so. I check all the polls and president looses hands down. Can’t by pass the senate, they vote what the majority of citizens want!
