Santorum Blames Obama, Clinton For Attacks, Forgetting ISIS Arose Because Of Iraq War

Posted by | November 15, 2015 11:30 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics War & Peace

ISIS is a direct descendant of al Qaeda, and is filling a vacuum we created by removing Saddam Hussein from power. Until that is fully understood, we’ll never be able to right decades of wrong-headed policies.

The Associated Press reports that Santorum said the world is now seeing the effects of decisions made by Obama and Clinton, the former secretary of state.

The irony?  Santorum seems to have forgotten who was in the White House when Al Quaeda hijacked four of our airplanes and murdered over 3,000 innocent Americans. He also seems to forget that he and his GOP colleagues demonized France after 9/11, going so far as to wanting to rename potatoes American Fries.

Santorum’s memory lapse also includes the fact that the deadly terrorist incidents between 2001 and 2007, can be traced directly back to Dick Cheney and George W. Bush using manufactured intelligence produced at their request by the CIA to invade Iraq; an ill-fated invasion that created the destabilization of Syria, Iraq and the entire MidEast and the resultant rise of the Islamic state known as ISIS, which is now responsible for much of the terror that [may] become World War III.

It’s virtually impossible to find any conservative criticism by Santorum, let alone his arch-conservative colleagues of the Bush Administration years, when Al Quaeda bombings left hundreds upon hundreds dead and thousands injured…. including the Ghriba synagogue, Mombasa, the Riyadh compound, Casablanca, Istanbul, Khobar, Madrid, Qatar, and Bali massacres.

The republican narrative goes like this…Bush and Cheney won the wars and Obama has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory….
Seriously, does anyone even buy that crap anymore…???

It’s something they want to believe, and they just need their masters to say it.

    • mistlesuede November 15th, 2015 at 12:29

Many of the tards on the right. I’m sure Cheney and his spawn will be doing the television rounds soon to continue the Magical Re-write History Tour.

Yes. Yes, they do. They have the memory of a gnat.

Oh, man, this “Bush created ISIS” narrative has GOT to go. At most we can legitimately say that Bush created an opening for something that was already underway, and even then only created *more* of an opening than already existed, because the founder of ISIS, al-Zarqawi, was already cooperating with Kurdish jihadis from Ansar al-Islam in northern Iraq — where the Saddam regime had no power and which was defended from the skies by the USA — years before the 2003 invasion. Can we please give our adversaries some credit for having agency of their own? The only way you can sustain the “Bush created a vacuum” argument is if you believe that Saddam, and Saddam alone, would have been insulated from the Arab Spring forces that toppled other strong-men like Gaddafi and Mubarak and thoroughly undermined al-Asad — right next door to Iraq.

“According to his onetime mentor, the jihadi ideologue Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi, al-Zarqawi’s political activities prior to his heading to Afghanistan in 1999 had largely been based in Jordan and revolved around spreading the religious teachings of al-Maqdisi [whom he] had met in Peshawar in 1991 [and whose] writings rejected the legitimacy of political systems that govern Muslim-majority states.

“…Bin Laden and al-Zawhiri were reluctant to have an association with al-Zarqawi in 1999 [but became] convinced that [his] connections in the Levant might yield dividends in the future… In 1999, Sayf [al-Adl, a military strategist for al-Qaeda] facilitated the establishment of a training camp in Herat to be run by al-Zarqawi… as early as 1999, and while AQ was in the business of setting up training camps to mount a fight against the global establishment in the form of states, al-Zarqawi was envisaging an establishment of his own [which he would call Islamic State].

“The embryo of al-Zarqawi’s society began to take shape in Afghanistan [in 2000], but Sayf relates that al-Zarqawi had always looked to Iraq as the place where his society would grow and expand [and] had established contact with the Kurdish group Ansar al-Islam that had a presence in northern Iraq…because al-Zarqawi wanted to duplicate an episode in Islamic history, with Mosul at its center.”

George Bush started ISIL. He (or his boss Cheney) fired all of Saddam’s military leaders, and they ended up being the leaders of ISIL.

    • Chris November 15th, 2015 at 13:32

And this needs to be repeated to Jeb! every day:

      “Your brother created ISIS.”

  3. Obewon November 15th, 2015 at 11:58

The world is now seeing the effects of decisions made by freedom-fried (R) Ricky.

Bush Jr / Cheney manufactured intelligence produced at their request by the CIA to invade Iraq; an ill-fated invasion that created the destabilization of Syria, Iraq and the entire MidEast-Jeb! / Cheney’16~ ‘W’s $6 T+ faux oil wars kept us safe’

  4. Tommie November 15th, 2015 at 12:03

And they seem to forget that McCain was posing and taking pictures with them saying we should arm them, as well! Unbelievable!

  5. Red Eye Robot November 15th, 2015 at 12:20

Yes, the Islamic State In SYRIA arose because of the war in Iraq, that obama spent his whole 2012 campaign bragging about successfuly ending and leaving in peace.

This is a fair mashup of yours.

But it’s funny how you snipped it from a neocon site. And how the neocons have wreaked havoc on our country.

Ever remember “Mission Accomplished”? That was not hilarious, and we’re still paying for it.

You neocons are raging that we aren’t still devoting blood and treasure over there at the rate we were under Bush. The longest war we ever waged in this country other than Vietnam was in Afghanistan. Second to that is Iraq. And it’s still not long enough for you.

No wonder so many of the “lost cause” Republican Confederate flag defenders rallied behind the second Iraq war.

    • Chris November 15th, 2015 at 13:20

      For the umpteenth time:

-Bush and Cheney knocked the Sunnis out of power in Iraq.
-They were now angry, unemployed and armed with the weapons Bush and Cheney allowed them to keep.
      -The Sunnis formed ISIS.

Simple enough now for even you to understand?

Go ahead and all-caps Syria all you want. Ever hear of the caliphate they want to form? Do you know that Syria is part of that?

    • arc99 November 15th, 2015 at 16:42

So typical of you right wingers. The Iraq war was your screw up and naturally as is the norm for the party of personal responsibility, the GOP and the low information voters who support them, try to blame the people who opposed attacking Iraq in the first place, for your mistake.

    • whatthe46 November 15th, 2015 at 18:13

you stay stuck on stupid if you choose to, you seem comfortable there. you (your party) knew 9/11 was going to happen and did nothing. you invade a country on false pretense. you murder tens of thousands of innocent people. you distablized their country, and create maniacs who seeks revenge and you take absolutely no responsibility for it. party of no responsiblilty as always.

    • bpollen November 15th, 2015 at 22:53

The guy who got Osama, Jihadi John, Abu Nibal, Anwar al-Awlaki, and 18 other terrorist leaders? That Obama?

If it’s that Obama to which you refer, do you actually have a point or are you just engaging in “ODS-terbation?”

  7. Larry Schmitt November 15th, 2015 at 12:47

I heard some republican claim again that Obama allowed Isis by withdrawing our troops from Iraq. They always forget the SOFA in place at the time that required us to leave. And Bush’s claim that he could have signed a new agreement to leave 10,000 troops in place is rated mostly false by Politico. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/may/18/jeb-bush/obama-refused-sign-plan-place-leave-10000-troops-i/

    • Red Eye Robot November 15th, 2015 at 13:02

So Obama who pledged to pull all US forces out of Iraq was really negotiating to keep US forces in Iraq?

      • Larry Schmitt November 15th, 2015 at 13:08

I didn’t say that. Read the article.

        • Suzanne McFly November 15th, 2015 at 13:35

Read? Assuming and spewing right wing talking points is so much easier.

      • Chris November 15th, 2015 at 13:16

He honored a commitment. Something you Republicans always beat your chests about.

George W. Bush and his administration created ISIS.

      • Obewon November 15th, 2015 at 13:21

GWB’s Status of forces agreement “pledged to pull all US forces out of Iraq” by 2011. No immunity, left 1000+ non-combatant U.S. Milt in Iraq.

      • William November 15th, 2015 at 15:23

Wrong again. President Obama was simply complying with a force withdrawal agreement signed by George of the Bungle.

in 2008 George W. Bush signed the U.S.–Iraq Status of Forces Agreement. It included a deadline of 31 December 2011, before which “all the United States Forces shall withdraw from all Iraqi territory”

        but…
Thanks for playing, “History according to the clinically stupid”.
Now run away to your troll locker until it’s time to favor us with your brilliance.

      • bpollen November 15th, 2015 at 22:45

Did you fail history in school? Because you are failing at it now.

WOF agreement signed in 2008… by G. Dubs… Jeb!’s brother.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – “The Paris terror attacks are likely to galvanize a stronger global military response to Islamic State, after a U.S.-led air war that has lasted more than a year has failed to contain a group now proving itself to be a growing worldwide threat.”

    • Obewon November 15th, 2015 at 13:05

Nope: You Lied again! Here’s what (Reuters) said 16 hours ago: “We’re only a matter of days before the French carrier departs and heads to the Persian Gulf to do strikes,” said former FBI official Martin Reardon, now with The Soufan Group consultancy. “I think France will do more.” http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/11/15/us-france-shooting-military-idUSKCN0T31HY20151115

“The same day as the Paris attacks unfolded, the United State carried out an operation to kill the Islamic State’s leader in Libya. A day earlier, it announced the death in Syria of a more symbolic target, striking an Islamic State figure, known as “Jihadi John,” who once taunted the West in hostage execution videos.”- Sat Nov 14, 2015 9:16pm EST.

      that comment is weak.

  9. Chris November 15th, 2015 at 13:14

Jeb! needs to be confronted ever day with someone emulating the 19-year-old who said, “your brother created ISIS.” Over and over, every day. This is the only way the independents will understand how ISIS originated.

this slimy paste faced little coward would have no problem sending your kid off to war to fight for another lost cause just so he could look like bad. some people are so vile they make me want to slap them up side the head and ask WTF is wrong with you?

    • Bunya November 16th, 2015 at 15:40

That statement brings me back to the good ol’ days when the courageous Dick “5 VietNam deferments” Cheney bravely sent our children off to die in an unnecessary war for profit.

  11. Sam November 15th, 2015 at 20:00

For The Record, Yes, George W. Bush Did Help Create ISIS

The threat of ISIS was created by the Iraqi coalition authority, which ousted the entire government of Iraq under Bush.

. It was when 30,000 individuals who are part of the Iraqi military were forced out. They had no employment, they had no income, yet they were left with access to all the same arms and weapons.”

Just over 12 years ago, George W. Bush appointed L. Paul Bremer to run Iraq. Bremer was given massive powers and a mandate to turn Iraq into a GOP dream: a free-market-loving, America-backing Muslim state that would stand as a shining beacon in the Middle East.

Bremer quietly left the country 14 months later, handing over power to an interim government in which 85 percent of Iraqis, at the time, said they lacked confidence. Much of their discontent had to do with Iraq’s security problems, which U.S. officials told The Washington Post were exacerbated by Bremer’s decision to disband the Iraqi army.

One of the men who lost his job was, according to a major recent report by the German magazine Der Spiegel, a key architect of the Islamic State.

Till I saw the draft which was of 8459 dollars, I accept that my friend’s brother was like really generating cash in his free time with his PC. . His aunt’s neighbor has done this for only 10 months and by now repaid the loan on their home and bought a new Car .Look here for details.
