Clinton And O’Malley Go At It On Death Penalty

Posted by | October 28, 2015 23:00 | Filed under: Politics

Hillary Clinton wants to review the death penalty. Martin O’Malley wants it abolished.

“We have a lot of evidence now that the death penalty has been too frequently applied, and too often in a discriminatory way,” Clinton said, according to The Hill. “I think we have to take a hard look at it.”

Clinton said she does not favor abolishing capital punishment because there are “certain egregious cases that still deserve the consideration of the death penalty.” The presidential hopeful added that she’d like to see those cases “be very limited and rare, as opposed to what we’ve seen in most states.”

Rival Democratic candidate Martin O’Malley responded to Clinton’s remarks in a statement saying “The death penalty is racially-biased, ineffective deterrent to crime, and we must abolish it.”

“Our nation should not be in the company of Iran, China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen in carrying out the majority of public executions,” O’Malley said, adding that the death penalty is “fundamentally at odds with our values.”

Tomorrow, if polling shows abolishing death penalty is popular, I know who’s going to change tune.

      I’m for abolishing it too.

And I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to hear Hillary “Me too!” Clinton to join our chorus shortly.

Well lets say that the death penalty is not part of the rehabilitation program

I am against the death penalty …there are so many reasons to be against it that I won’t list them all…so I am with O’malley on this one…but it’s not enough to make me vote for him…I think we should move to life without parole as the highest degree of punishment…I think it settles the argument nicely…true monsters can never get out and it ends the appeals process nicely…we can look to other countries for how to do criminal reform much better for low level crimes….;)
