Dawkins: ‘Disgraceful’ That Republican Candidates Are Creationists

Posted by | October 15, 2015 07:30 | Filed under: Politics Radio Interviews Religion

Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins appeared on my radio show Wednesday night to discuss his memoir, A Brief Candle in the Dark.

Dawkins told me he thinks it is disgraceful that most of the candidates running for the GOP nomination for President are creationists, even though molecular genetics can prove that evolution is scientific fact. We also discussed whether Dawkins would ever change his views on the existence of God, some of the great minds Dawkins has worked with, and why he gets a positive reaction in the Bible Belt despite his views on religion.

Creationism IS mega kooky AND Dawkins is a dick. And boring. Very, very boring.

I have to agree. Whether they’re true believers or simply pandering to their ignorant base they deny objective reality in favor of supernatural mumbo-jumbo.

Religion should not even be mentioned in a candidate’s campaign, nor should it ever be used to influence any decisions made that affect the rest of the country.

Keep religion out of politics, and a lot of problems in the U.S. would be resolved much easier and quickly.

Perhaps to you he’s boring. To me, any truth teller that gets any media attention is worth the effort to understand.

Truth teller, schmeller. There are no big breakthroughs to be had in Evolutionary Biology, it’s just basic science. Folks who don’t “believe” in it have specific supernatural belief systems which preclude them from doing so. I find it boring to listen to very basic science, and don’t think his hectoring & preaching convinces anyone, nor is meant to. I think he just makes some who accept some very basic scientific principles feel superior. And I think that’s his goal. Yawn. (It’s definitely just my subjective opinion, lots of smart people I like and respect enjoy him)

    science is boring?

No way, dude. But Evolutionary Biology is mega boring. It’s the Dewey Decimal system for critters. Gimme some sexy particle physics, or something where big new things are being discovered. As far as pop science goes Hawkins, Brian Greene, Michio Kaku all cover more interesting territory and manage to delight rather than irritate.
