Rep.Steve King On Guns: ‘It Would Be Nice To Have A Good Shot As President’

Posted by | October 6, 2015 09:06 | Filed under: Politics Radio Interviews

Iowa Congressman Steve King is hosting a pheasant hunt for presidential candidates, and so I asked him if how well someone does there is a good indicator for a president. We also talked about the race for the House speakership and his assessment of outgoing Speaker John Boehner.

KING: The decisions that were made by the current Speaker right now, that was John Boehner, many times blocked me from defending the Constitution, which is a requirement of my office.

COLMES: What do you mean, in what way were you blocked from defending the Constitution?

KING: For example, when the President committed his self-professed unconstitutional act of executive amnesty, the effort to block the funding for that executive amnesty, was blocked by a strategic maneuver by the Speaker. So that’s one of those bones I would pick, but it’s a significant principle from my perspective…

COLMES: So what’s the downside (to Rep. McCarthy becoming Speaker)?

KING: The downside is his position that he has been very close to John Boehner, I don’t see that he has challenged the strategy that comes out of John Boehner, and he’s viewed as, I think, more of a moderate than a conservative. And I have some concerns about his immigration position…

COLMES: Who are you supporting for President?

KING: I haven’t made an announcement yet. I have a pheasant hunt coming up here at the end of this month, and we’ll have three or four Presidential candidates there. And we’ll showcase the 2nd Amendment, and put some feathers in the air.

COLMES: So whoever shoots the most pheasants is the one you’re going to support?

KING: It would be nice to have a good shot as President.

COLMES: Oh yeah, that’s just great, that’s really a nice thing to say on the heels of the tragedy in Oregon isn’t it?

KING: Well I don’t know how you can link that thing that far away. Outdoor shooting sports, defending ourselves.

COLMES: It would be great to have a good shot as President?

KING: Well, sure, somebody that respects the 2nd Amendment rights and is comfortable with a gun in their hand.

Exactly, why bother with this regressive who believes guns make a man but voting is not a right.

When it comes to shot guns, Pres. Obama is definitely Left, handed anyway. See Obewon’s picture.

Hummmmm, Good Question. I don’t think there is a Gun Control Law that restricts a President from owning a gun but you never know.

Ya just gotta get some relief from Trump once in awhile.

Hunting trip, huh? Why did Dick Cheney popped in my mind while reading that that article? I bet King was thinking “It would be nice to have a good shot AT the President”!

  4. The Original Just Me October 6th, 2015 at 10:00

He really needs to invite Dick Cheney. Cheney would BLOW the others away. Good Gun hander that one.

When I first saw they headline I thought it said “It would be nice to have a good shot at president.” That would be in line with his previous statements. What in the hell does a person’s ability with firearms have to do with his qualifications for the presidency? He keeps proving how stupid he is.

It’s not like the CIC runs around with a six gun on his hip.

Has he never seen President Obama on the court? He is a great outside shooter, King should play a game of one on one with him.

Don’t worry Steve. It’s a-campaignin’ season. All the clowns in the car will be sportin’ their bestest Elmer Fudd outfits.

  10. Dwendt44 October 6th, 2015 at 14:21

There really no down side to that either.

    • The Original Just Me October 6th, 2015 at 20:58

The best news that could come out of that would be hearing someone shout; ” I GOT ONE ! “
