Rubio Wants To Blame Democrats If Government Shuts Down Over Planned Parenthood1

Posted by | September 18, 2015 16:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

One wonders if this is part of naked presidential ambition, or does Marco Rubio really think Democrats are responsible for the pickle Republicans are in.

Rubio says a government shutdown over funding Planned Parenthood would be the fault of President Obama and Senate Democrats, an argument he says his fellow Republicans in Congress should have been making weeks ago.

“On the issue of Planned Parenthood, the work should have begun weeks ago, laying the groundwork for this debate,” said Rubio. “Obviously, the House, the Senate should have laid the groundwork for this debate, so people understand that we’re not just debating an organization here, that some people might think is a nice organization or whatever — we’re debating their practices.

“The point is this, on the Planned Parenthood issue: The people who are threatening a shutdown is Barack Obama, and his allies in the Senate,” said Rubio. “What they’re arguing is: ‘If the federal budget does not fully fund Planned Parenthood, I will veto the budget, and hence shut down the government.’ That should be the message. Instead, it’s always the reverse, ‘the Republicans are going to shut down the government.’

That’s because they are.

Why would this be ‘detected as spam’ and not allowed to show up???

Just because the democrats are actually representing their constituents by not giving in to the extremists on the right means only they are leaders and not ideological puppets, like Rubio. Any shutdown will be the result of right wing extremism, and only right wing extremism.

    So i’ll try again…

Technically, he’s right. The one who vetoes it is responsible for a shutdown. Not the one’s who pass it, without funding for Planned Parenthood. Once it gets to the President’s desk, it lives or dies by HIS decision.

    • whatthe46 September 19th, 2015 at 16:38

that’s such bullshit. the GOP are acting like children. instead of threatening to hold their breath unless they get what they want, they will make everyday citizens working to support their families suffer, by shuting down the govt. what they are also saying, aside from the fact they don’t give a damn about these citizens, is that they don’t give a shit about womens health. shuting down the govt. won’t last forever but womens health care will. and the people will remember this come election. so no, he’s way off the mark and wrong and so are you. you people have a problem with personal responsibility.

    • bpollen September 19th, 2015 at 19:09

Technically, Congress is deliberately sending him a bill they know he will veto. The Prez is a foil in their stupid-ass stunt. If you are aware that he will veto it, and you STILL pass it, then YOU are responsible for the shot you fired at our country.

If this were a law & order episode, Obama would be the guy that pulled the trigger and Congress would be the mastermind (hard to say that with a straight face) who orchestrated it. The DA would cut a deal with Obama to testify against Congress. For Depraved Indifference, maybe…

      • illinoisboy1977 September 20th, 2015 at 12:00

Actually, it’s within the full authority of Congress to decide where the money goes. If the President chooses to shut down the government, that decision is fully his. If it wasn’t, the shutdown wouldn’t hinge on whether or not he signs the bill. Defunding one program is not “firing a shot at our country”. It’s deciding that this one organization no longer gets government money. Nothing more. They’re not a vital part of national infrastructure, therefore they don’t have any right or reasonable expectation, to continue to receive funding.

Bill of attainder. Trying, convicting, and punishing a specific group or organization without trial. Prohibited in the Constitution

So, yes, responsibility for sending a bill to the president that you know he will veto, and that violates the constitution rests SOLELY upon Congress. And skipping the whole 6th Amendment thing and simply declaring guilt really shows how it’s all Obama’s fault…. right?

          • illinoisboy1977 September 20th, 2015 at 22:16

Cutting off funding doesn’t require any such trial or conviction. Congress has discretion to cut funding for any reason, or no reason at all. Planned Parenthood has no Constitutional right to continued government funding.

                  I don’t blame you one bit! :)

              • illinoisboy1977 September 21st, 2015 at 10:18

Yes, it is legal. Horrible, but legal. However, Congress has absolute authority to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood. They’re not a government agency, but a private non-profit. They’re not “entitled” to government financial support. The money can be shut off for any reason, or no reason at all.

            • bpollen September 20th, 2015 at 22:55

I disagree, but it’s a moot point. When a company wants to prevent takeover, they put a “poison pill” provision into a sale. They put in something they know, in advance, is unpalatable for the… opponent. You can talk until you are blue in the face, but the final result is predetermined by the actions of those who PLACE the poison pill. Not by the person who is unwilling to accept it. And when you know that you are likely shutting down the country the country due to your actions injecting said “poison pill” provision, nobody is fooled by the finger-pointing and saying “that other guy made us do it.”

The way *I* see it, Obama would be standing up for the 3 million Americans who get healthcare via PP, and the Republicans would be trying to TAKE healthcare under the pretense of accusations of criminal activity that has been debunked by investigations in 5 separate states. 5 RED states.

              • illinoisboy1977 September 21st, 2015 at 10:16

You raise a valid argument. I acknowledge that the specific charges have been disproven in 5 states. But, I disagree that Congress would be to blame for a full-on government shutdown. We appear to be at a philosophical impasse.

when the reason is based on religion and lies you bet it is wrong.

          • illinoisboy1977 September 21st, 2015 at 10:20

But, not illegal. They don’t have to provide ANY reason for cutting off funding. They can just do it and there’s nothing Planned Parenthood can do about it.

            • tracey marie September 21st, 2015 at 12:08

Illegal, we are not atheocracy, we have a wall between church and state guaranteed by our constitution and many laws against discrimination

              • illinoisboy1977 September 21st, 2015 at 13:06

Those laws don’t extend to government funding of a non-profit venture. Such funds are “donations” and are at the sole discretion of the House of Representatives.

                • tracey marie September 21st, 2015 at 13:28

HC “venture”, most rural communities depend on PP for basic care

    • CandideThirtythree September 20th, 2015 at 15:36

So if they vote to make murder legal or overturn child labor laws, as some republicans in state houses have already done by the way, then he should just let it pass or be blamed for a shutdown?

No it is the fault of the congress who are acting like stupid bullies and the whole country knows it, that is why the majority of the country always blames republicans.

  4. illinoisboy1977 September 20th, 2015 at 11:57

No. It’s the President’s personal responsibility, if he vetoes a bill based on ONE issue with which he disagrees. If he chooses to shut down the government, he has to own that. Once it reaches his desk, he has the final word, and carries the full blame, for “yea” or “nay”.

    • bpollen September 20th, 2015 at 14:47

You can kick that can all you want, but it still is an empty can.

    • whatthe46 September 20th, 2015 at 15:14

no he doesn’t. women should be able to have healthcare. and the repigs want to shut that down. i guess that’s ok with you as well. i would say to you stop playing stupid, but you’ve proven you are quite fk’n stupid.

      • illinoisboy1977 September 20th, 2015 at 22:14

Planned Parenthood isn’t the ONLY place where women can get healthcare. There ARE other organizations. Less corrupt organizations.

        • whatthe46 September 20th, 2015 at 22:17

there’s nothing corrupt about PP. too bad the truth and facts don’t digest with you fk’n idiots. get over it.

          • illinoisboy1977 September 21st, 2015 at 10:22

Margaret Sanger began Planned Parenthood as a “population control” mechanism for the poor and “undesirable” segments of society. Its very roots are corrupt and stink of eugenics. Nothing will change what they are, or their reason for being. Its very existence is an affront to human dignity.

      such poopoo in that statement…

  5. CandideThirtythree September 20th, 2015 at 15:46

Not only the American people blame the republicans when they shut down the government but so does the whole world!

Last time they did it, it was front page headline on every online newspaper that I read from the UK, France, Turkey, Japan, Russia, Canada etc. They all blamed the republicans and they had some colorful adjectives to describe the right wing of the US legislative body…none of them were flattering!

  6. HumansNeedToWakeUp October 2nd, 2015 at 12:28

If Republicans would cooperate and be the first ones to take personal responsibility, then the Democrats would follow their example, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, the Republicans think they are always RIGHT about everything!!! Cooperation is the word Republicans can’t handle the truth of!
