Experts: Government Shutdown Likely

Posted by | September 14, 2015 20:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Republicans ought to recall the previous time they shut down the government and how well it did for their party. And to shut it down over Planned Parenthood, which doesn’t use federal dollars for abortions, is both ignorant and crazy.

On Congress’s first day back, the potential for a shutdown jumped to 67 percent, [Stan] Collender wrote. That’s because another highly emotional and dramatic debate was bubbling to the surface: the Iran nuclear deal. On Thursday, Senate Democrats successfully blocked a resolution disapproving of the deal. But, similar to Planned Parenthood this time around and Obamacare in 2013, opponents of the deal could use the budget debate to try to stop the Iran deal from being funded.

“When combined with the expected efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, [the Iran deal] will add significant highly emotional fuel to the partisan fire and make a government shutdown far more politically palatable,” Collender wrote.

… it’s 75 percent likely the government will shut down for at least a day or two, Jim Manley, a former high-ranking Senate Democratic aide to then-Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), told The Fix. There’s simply too much to get done and too many pressure points.

‘Record low GOP 7% voter support’-2011 & 2013 proves once again Conservatives are much slower to learn or remember anything accurate. Government Shutdown Was Planned For Months By Reagan’s A.G. Ed Meese & Koch Bros groups. http://radio.foxnews.com/2013/10/06/government-shutdown-was-planned-for-months-by-ed-meese-koch-bros/

Good! The government basically shuts down every weekend and we always survive that. We also somehow have made it through every congressional recess and Obama’s endless vacations. If this President could somehow find it in himself to respect the role of the Congress, the people’s representatives we wouldn’t have these kind of problems. It’s funny, President Reagan was always able to work with the Congress when he was in power, why can’t Obama?

Never mind that little Georgee Bush took way more time off to ‘chop brush’ than Obama ever did or ever will. We survived eight years of Bush. Wasn’t easy on most of us, but we managed. ‘Course the parts of ‘government’ that usually gets ‘shut down’ during these conservative tantrums are the very parts that don’t shut down on Sunday. Parks, tourist sites like monuments and so forth.

Some right wing nut jobs actually claim that the shut down was responsible for the Republican gains in the ’14 election. Never mind how stupid that sounds. The party that’s opposite of the President usually gains during off year elections.
