First Gay NFL Player Steps Away With Mental Health Concerns
Michael Sam is taking a break from football to deal with his mental health.
Sam made history when he was drafted by the St Louis Rams last year, sparking a flurry of media interest.
However, he failed to gain a place in the team and recently made his debut in Canada with the Montreal Alouettes.
He announced his decision on Twitter.

I am so sorry that Sam is struggling, but happy to see he’s taking the right steps to care for himself.

Boys can be so cruel when they play their games.

I wish him nothing but the best. I suspect his “team mates” have a lot to do with his decision. Had he not come out, he would probably be playing in the NFL

This should surprise nobody. As much attention and scrutiny that his sexuality got at the time of the NFL draft, it’s a wonder it hadn’t happened before now or even something worse.. And need I remind you that his sexuality was not an issue until the NFL draft. Perhaps some of the members of the media who will waste no time to exploit a person’s differences need to re-examine their priorities…….maybe consider some counseling themselves.
