Obama Promotes Gay Rights In Kenya; Kenyan Pres Pushes Back

Posted by | July 26, 2015 09:01 | Filed under: Politics

President Obama brought up the importance of equal rights for all, and specifically mentioned gays while speaking in Kenya. Obama remarked:

When you start treating people differently not because of any harm they are doing to anybody, but because they are different, that’s the path whereby freedoms begin to erode,” Obama said at a joint press conference with the Kenyan leader in Nairobi. “And bad things happen.”

He then connected Kenya’s anti-gay laws to racism and racial-based legislation in the United States:

“And when a government gets in a habit of people treating people differently, those habits can spread,” Obama continued. “As an African-American, I am painfully aware of what happens when people are treated differently under the law.”

[Kenyan President Uhuru] Kenyatta, however, disagreed with Obama’s remarks and made a few of his own:

“The fact of the matter is Kenya and the U.S. share so many values: common love for democracy, entrepreneurship, value for families — these are some things that we share,” Kenyatta said. “But there are some things that we must admit we don’t share. Our culture, our societies don’t accept.”

“It is very difficult for us to be able to impose on people that which they themselves do not accept,” Kenyatta continued. “This is why I repeatedly say for Kenyans today the (gay rights issue) is generally a non-issue. We want to focus on other areas.”

Thanks to phobic American so-called preachers and their “suggestions” and sermons to kill the gays in Africa, we have helped them to hate more instead of learn to tolerate at the least and accept at the most.

They are very successful at spreading religious hate, they did a great job in Russia too.

Pseudo missionary hate mongers. If they can’t do it here they’ll do it somewhere else.

hate mongers is what they are, they go armed with that while holding a bible. If people really read that blood drenched book they would/should be appalled ate the violence and hate.

Absolutely, applied interpretation with a nefarious purpose. They always forget the ” love thy neighbor ” part.

There are enough Christians out there more concerned about what they identify as sinful behavior, and no where near enough who are concerned with just straight up loving people.

It’s control through fear, obey or go to hell. Tax the money grabbing churches pushing politics.

        Of course.

        And there is always this.

          Religion is BIG business.

They make their money off the sweat of working people by telling them they are sinners.

And thanks to their tax free staus we ALL are being forced to contribute.

Typical Obama, he shows up at someone’s else’s home and insults them. Didn’t he take umbrage a few weeks ago when he was insulted by a heckler at the White House?

    • anothertoothpick July 26th, 2015 at 10:33

Tbaggers tell us he was born in Kenya.

    • tracey marie July 26th, 2015 at 11:12

Typical tarterhead, ignoring the fact that theocratic haters wrote the hate the gay so kill them legislation in parts of Africa.

Typical right wing hypocrite. You guys wet your pants in ectasy when Newt Gingrich went to China and lectured them on human rights.

The hatred you right wingers have for this President is disgusting. Throughout our history, the President of the United States has always used the bully pulpit to advocate for the values we stand for which is liberty and justice for all.

Ah but when this President does it, it is an insult to his foreign hosts. Here is a blast from the past when Gingrich as Speaker of the House and 3rd in line to the Presidency “insulted” (according to your idiotic thinking) the Chinese during the trip where he led America’s Congressional delegation.

Nothing this President has done is ever acceptable to you mindless ideologues, even when what he does is what American leaders have done for decades.

In contrast, Mr. Gingrich chose Hong Kong as his platform to warn Chinese leaders that attempts to confine freedom to economic issues while refusing to allow it in politics would surely fail. He referred explicitly to ”the lack of basic freedom — speech, religion, assembly, the press” in China today. The Speaker maintained this same blunt tone in his talks with Chinese leaders. It would not be a bad idea if Administration officials adopted the same straight-speaking approach.

I said it once and i will say it again, no matter what Obama does the right will not like it, he could tell the world how powerful we are and they would say, “why is he bragging so much”, the double standard is comical!
