Hillary Wants To Eventually Ban Fracking And Oil Extraction On Public Land

Hillary Clinton says a long-term goal would be to ban these practices.

“We still have to run our economy, we still have to turn on the lights,” the Democratic presidential frontrunner told the audience in the small southeastern town of Dover, N.H. Clinton said she would continue the current energy policy in the short term but would gradually end fracking and oil extraction on public lands in the long term.

Environmental activists were disappointed to hear Clinton’s plan of at least temporarily continuing the practice, even though she stated that it would not be permanent under her administration if she were elected president.

“I know what the right answer in terms of getting votes would have been. The right answer would have been ‘you bet I would ban extraction on public lands,’” Clinton said in response to an audience member’s question.

Part of Clinton’s vision for the future would require corporations that drill for oil or natural gas and mine for coal to pay higher taxes or a special tax aimed at businesses who solely operate on fossil fuels.

“I do think that there has to be a greater fee on extraction while we do everything we can to transition to clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency,” Clinton said.

Well, that won’t do. How in the world are the oil companies that run this country going to continue making record profits if we don’t allow them to destroy and pollute the land to get their precious black gold?

Ummm…by giving them our Tax money?

You can’t expect patriotic groups like the oil companies, who make so many contributions to the political process (both sides) to actually pay taxes, can you? That’s for you and me, not them. And I’m sure they appreciate us picking up their tab for them.

Right on target! The G7 leading industrial nations have agreed to cut greenhouse gases by phasing out the use of fossil fuels by the end of the century! http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/08/g7-leaders-agree-phase-out-fossil-fuel-use-end-of-century

Biofuels, hydroelectric, solar and wind can easily cleanly power Earth for eons.

But will we last till the end of the century? There doesn’t seem to be any effort at all on the part of the biggest polluters (that includes us) to make any real changes.

Oil crashed to $50/brl because by 2050 nobody will burn that toxic sludge. “U.S. crude stockpiles remain almost 100 million barrels above the five-year average for this time of the year, Energy Information Administration data show.” http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-07-16/oil-heads-for-third-weekly-decline-amid-signs-glut-will-persist

This is 2015. What year did you mean?

Sorry. I meant mid century 2050.

              I hope you’re right.

As long as the Greedy Oil Party “continue to lose 5 of the past 6 Popular POTUS election votes” we and all of Earth will win!

The stupid thing is, the oil companies could invest in the new technologies too, and continue to make record profits. They have scientists working for them who could help develop feasible and affordable technologies that would replace fossil fuels. I don’t know why the boards of the companies can’t see that.

they do see it…Look at the Koch Industries and the assorted companies involved…they are the enemies of which we have been warned by our Founding Folks…

Most of the oil companies have their fingers in alternate energy sources. They know that oil is limited, long term, and should any one or all alternate source take off and prove profitable, they will be right there.

We could just not give them a subsidy for any oil extracted from public lands.
I fail to see why they couldn’t develop a ‘water only’ fracking process instead of using toxic chemicals that are leaching into water supplies.
