Conservatives Call George Takei Worse Than The KKK

When those on the right say something outrageous and progressives call them on it, conservatives complain that the left is engaging in “political correctness” and trying to limit free speech. They start squawking about the First Amendment and attempt to wrap it around them like a warm blanket.

But when a progressive engages in “free speech,” and takes a verbal jab at one of the right’s sacred cows, suddenly the First Amendment is forgotten by conservatives and they are offended.

Here’s a perfect example: Former Star Trek star George Takei, criticized Clarence Thomas’ strange dissent in the same-sex marriage ruling. In that dissent, Thomas used an analogy between same-sex couples and slavery. Takei remarked:

I feel Justice Thomas has abdicated and abandoned his African American heritage by claiming slavery did not strip dignity from human beings. He made a similar remark about the Japanese American internment, of which I am a survivor. A sitting Justice of the Supreme Court ought to know better….READ MORE at  LiberalAmerica.org

“I’m getting a report of Mr Sulu threatening crewmen…….with a sword?”

I’m old enough to remember when the multi-ethnic Star Trek crew pushed the tolerance limits of the conservatives.

So, it’s kind of fitting the Takei is still pushing their buttons.

Star Trek has so lost its edge…Takei on the other hand has still got it!

I just watched a show recently with my teen child. It was really fun, in a campy way.

She just laughed at it and I told her how we took it seriously back then. And then she had even more fun mocking me. Now, that’s family values! ;-)

I met Gene Roddenberry a couple of times when he used to give lectures at universities, all that edge came from him. The studio was always trying to dull the edge and the writers that came after him had none of his vision. It was supposed to be more Aesop’s fable and less soap opera, it was supposed to be about understanding and embracing people/beings who were different from us and not so much about blasting them into compliance but he said that didn’t play well with the people at the studios. Guess they were all conservatives LOL!

I remember when I first watched DS9 (DSN?). After maybe half the first season I realized they were doing little more than playing out the Isreal-Palistine conflict as it was being reported in the news at the time and I knew the writers had gone lazy…

How can you dis DS9? That’s my favorite one….politics, war, espionage…..it was the only trek show where the protagonists couldn’t just fly away from their (or anyone else’s) problems at the end of an episode. :(

Oh noes! Should I have stuck with it?

It’s on netflix, please do give it another chance–it’s pretty good once you get through season 1. but it doesn’t really get going into full-blown awesomeness until around mid-season 4/early season 5 when all of them have to start dealing with the political fallout of everything that has been done up to that point….it’s the beautiful thing about a stationary star trek vessel, neither Kirk, Picard, or Janeway ever had to deal with the consequences of their own actions or of federation politics for very long before warping off to the next star system, whereas the DS9 crew has got no choice but to live in the thick of it.

Yup, some of the themes are still relevant today. Over population, authoritarian regimes, weird religions.

George Takei has been with his partner for 28 years, yet, conservatives look to Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich for their family values.

    • Majorana Fermion July 4th, 2015 at 17:39

Oh, it’s not just those two. There’s a long history of conservatives looking to hypocritical adulterers, rapists and child molesters for their values:

      David Vitter,
      Larry Craig,
      Ted Haggard,
      Henry Hyde,
      Jim Bakker,
      John Ensign,
      Michael D. Duvall,
      Tony Alamo,
      Bob Livingston,
      Mark Sanford,
      Lou Beres,
      Michael Hintz…

That’s the short list! The Palin family is a trainwreck but they still can sit in judgement of gay families.

        The same with the Duggars.

I’m probably preaching to the choir but I don’t judge the family for having a kid who sexually misbehaves. But this was happening AT THE VERY SAME TIME that papa Duggar was running as a family values conservative! Where is the Christian humility?

        • Majorana Fermion July 4th, 2015 at 20:54

Oh, I think even those who defend the Duggars at the moment will a.) admit they are a train-wreck, and b.) will claim they aren’t Real Christians ™ in another few months.

        • rg9rts July 5th, 2015 at 09:01

          Christian Humility??? Oxymoron

        • Dwendt44 July 6th, 2015 at 00:52

But it takes a hard nosed christian Republican to claim that THEY are the moral champions, the self righteous hypocrites.
