Congressman Peter King: We Need ‘More Surveillance’ Of Muslims

Posted by | May 4, 2015 23:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

New York Republican Peter King wants the members of one religious group to come under more surveillance by the authorities.

King spoke with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about the attack on the Garland center hosting a “Draw Mohammed” cartoon contest.

He said the attack was clearly “ISIS-inspired” and pointed to the “social media dialogue going on” with one of the suspects.

King then told Blitzer, “I do believe in having more surveillance of people in the Muslim community, because that’s where the threat comes from.”

He acknowledged it might be viewed as unconstitutional, but argued the FBI shoud be “authorized to go further than that” and it’s “very reasonable” right now for someone like the shooter with terror ties to be surveilled.

The threat to the safety of workers and patients at family planning clinics comes from “pro life” Evangelicals. As long as Rep. King is ready to trash the Constitution, let’s add anti abortion advocates to the list of people we profile and watch.

Antiabortion terrorists burned his house and harass him constantly, but he knows why he continues: “The patients”

the greatest threat to your communities are people like king who work to reduce the population into frightened sheep who just adore cameras on every corner.

I disagree with Mr. King’s assertions. True, we have been targeted by people who subscribe to an extreme form of Islam. However, they are a small minority, in this country. Most American Muslims seem to be moderate and not predisposed to commit acts of murder, against those with whom they disagree. We’ve also seen attacks by Christian extremists, here, in the past. Instead of conducting surveillance against an entire religious community, the better course of action would be to watch the extremist message boards and insert undercover operatives into the terrorist networks’ online communities. In other words, old-fashioned police work.
You can’t use the fear of attack as an excuse to violate the Constitutional rights of ANY group of people, regardless of how suspicously you view them.

I agree. Because many Americans are under the misconception that Islam is a violent religion, then all Muslims must be violent. This is simply not true and, as such, they are being unfairly stereotyped. For example, when Christians bomb clinics and kill doctors, the perpetrators are brushed off as simply “a few bad apples”. Muslims aren’t afforded that luxury.

After a protracted effort to portray himself as one of the only reasonably sane Rebag’s on The Hill, he say’s crap like this… but of course, it’s far from Peter King’s first foray into la-la land… the picture though says it all… what, did he assume Michell Bachman’s BS crazy-eyes look?

I think he should be monitored.
