It’s already a law in Maine and some Canadian provinces. http://bangordailynews.com/2008/08/31/news/maines-smokinginvehicles-law-starts-today/

good Lord I hate to agree with conservatives and libertarians but I see no logic in this law.

so, the parents cannot smoke with the child in the car which will be at most 1-2 hours per day for most households. but they can smoke 24x7x365 at home while the child sits beside them watching TV. not sure how that makes any sense at all.

I grew up with it, my father would chain smoke while driving…the air is more concentrated in the small confines of a car. I had chronic bronchitis and my mother who was a non-smoker died of lung cancer.

Probably because any legislation directed at smoking restrictions in a domicile would be unenforceable.

Amazing. Common sense in Florida. That’s a first.

But, but little Johnnie still can’t read at age 18 so someone has to read his diploma to him…but that’s okay.

Wish we had that when I was a child…I wouldn’t have grown up with chronic bronchitis.

screw them if they are over 13? What about parents who feed their children at McDiddleshits drive through or the f’n chicken place and on and on. Oops, theylet their children use public toilets and………………………oh hell, protect me from me and all will be well.

Sounds like a good idea, but does it really help the kids it is intended to help? If you are under 13 and your parents care so little about your health that they would smoke in a confined space where you had to breathe the concentrated smoke, then you’ve got much bigger problems. It seems to me that this is just a special case of a broader concept like “recklessly endangering the health of a minor dependent”. But that could be used to prosecute people who take their kids for motorcycle rides. In many states, there is no minimum age for a child to be a passenger on a motorcycle, so long as they have a helmet.
