Curt Flood says he may move away from St. Louis after the racial incident.

“I’m going to let the authorities handle this situation, but I’ve had enough of St. Louis,” Ford said in a phone interview Thursday. “You hear about this kind of stuff happening, and I always knew it existed because of my previous experience working here in St. Louis, but you try to keep away from it, and there is just no way you can do that unless you stay inside like a hermit.

“I just want justice. It’s all I want.”

Ford, 54, said the experience has made him consider moving, even though, “I care a lot about St. Louis and I love the people here.” He added, “The people I have been involved with are all very positive and all they want to do is work and pay bills. There are very nice people here.”

St. Louis County police from the Fenton precinct arrested James Street, 37, of the 400 block of Saline Road, a white man who allegedly slugged the black former Cardinals player Wednesday after shouting racial slurs at him and telling him to “go back to Ferguson,” the Post-Dispatch has learned.

“I was sucker-punched, blindsided,” Ford said. “I was walking into the store and hit from my blind side.”

      A man who witnessed the aftermath of the attack said Thursday that Street was “huge.”

      Makes sense attack someone older and smaller, no need to attack someone your own size. No brains, no character, no guts, no balls, pretty much sums a piece of sh*t sucker puncher racist..

    Your headline says Curt Flood. He died 20 years or more ago. He was the first one to challenge MLB’s reserve clause in court, which eventually brought about free agency.

    Curt Ford is the gentlemans name, retired baseball player. Played for the cardinals during the Herzog years, decent player, all around good dude.

    One reason why for the time being I have hung up my Cardinals cap and jacket. There is a lot of racism in STL and Cards fans seem to be more infected with it than the average. I couldn’t believe when watching the MLB playoffs- all those signs in the stands -‘We support the Cardinals and Darren Wilson’. That and all the racist catcalls from team gear wearing fans outside the stadium toward peaceful demonstrators. I sent an email to Cardinals management telling them their team was taking a black eye from some of their local fans and they needed some distance- they never replied and so far as I know never did anything. To hell with them- there are 30+ other MLB teams out there to root for.

      Good thing those “peaceful demonstrators” left the riot in Ferguson, instead of bringing it with them, eh?
      “Support[ing]” Darren Wilson doesn’t make someone a racist; but making thievery, assault on a cop and other crimes acceptable and the entitled, lawless attitude behind them excusable means we will have more Michael Browns.

        And I suppose you had no problem with a group of STL fans, wearing team logo clothing, yelling the ‘N’ word at a group of demonstrators outside Busch stadium the evening of one of the playoff games? I still maintain that there was and probably still is an attitude linking support for the team with support for the cops. I suppose you have no issues with how most citizens in Ferguson are treated by them?

    I hope things work out ok for the Ford fella.

    Gosh, last I heard of Curt Flood he was suing MLB over the reserve clause. Great ball player. I thought he was dead.
    Obviously Flood didn’t deserve this and I am appropriately outraged.
