Cruz: Lift All Limits On Campaign Cash

Posted by | March 16, 2015 23:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

Senator Ted Cruz equates billionaires with people putting signs up on front lawns and believes money is free speech.

Unlimited political cash would give rank-and-file conservative activists greater sway in picking their representatives, including the president, White House hopeful Ted Cruz told New Hampshire voters on Sunday.

Cruz, a first-term senator who represents Texas, said deep-pocketed donors should have the same rights to write giant campaign checks as voters have to put signs in their front yards. Both, Cruz said, were an example of political speech, and he added that “money absolutely can be speech.”

“I believe everyone here has a right to speak out on politics as effectively as possible,” Cruz told a voter who asked him about the role of the super-rich in politics.

Purchasing Democracy, one subverted vote at a time!

  2. tiredoftea March 16th, 2015 at 23:52

Fine, Canadian Teddy. Open your schedule, and bank records for all to see who you are meeting with, who they represent, how much they gave you, and your family, friends and business associates, how you voted before and after you got their money.

Democrats, perverting U.S. Democracy – one illegal voter at a time.

Fringe idiots. Low reading comprehension and deflecting the issue, every time.

Do you really know what you’re farting through your mouth?

I believe that he actually enjoys the abuse. Any attention, albeit negative is better than no attention.

If you are aware of an act of illegal voting and you have not reported it to the proper authorities, you are enabling criminal activity.

If you are not aware of any act of illegal voting, then you are just lying, again.

So which is it JT, are you a criminal or a liar, or both?

It’s unbelievable hypocrisy that this Canadian born POS is eligible to run for presidency. Isn’t he a lawyer, but he doesn’t or refuse to know that he can’t run? Where are the GOP/Teabag birthers on him? Bloody fools if they can let this Canadian born POS continue on his BS presidency ambition. He is going nowhere with it.

    • tiredoftea March 17th, 2015 at 01:31

His mother is native born, hence, Teddy is a citizen. You may not like him, but don’t go all lefty birther, OK?

Whenever I hear crap like this, I’m reminded of Didius Julianus who in 193 AD purchased the position of Roman Emperor when the Praetorian Guards auctioned it off to the highest bidder.

Guess that’s what Ted and his ilk want.

    • AmusedAmused March 17th, 2015 at 14:25

Didius only ruled for 9 weeks. Because the Praetorian Guard figured, “if we sold the emperorship once, why not do it again?” Something people like Ted Cruz should perhaps keep in mind. Oh, who am I kidding, the smartest of them only read the Cliff Notes version of history and pick out whatever confirms their preexisting biases.

  6. William March 17th, 2015 at 01:28

Don’t think of it as influence by billionaires and corporations. Think of it as “sponsorship” you know, like NASCAR

  7. rg9rts March 17th, 2015 at 08:51

A bigger trough for scruz to wallow in

  8. Shades March 17th, 2015 at 09:08

He actually compared a billionaire writing a big check with someone putting a political sign on their front lawn…HE ACTUALLY SAID THAT!

He must think we are all as dumb as a bag of T-baggers.

    • AmusedAmused March 17th, 2015 at 14:07

      He’s not dumb. He’s shameless.

      • anothertoothpick March 17th, 2015 at 15:21

That t-bagger crowd that he preaches to are very stupid and easy to BS and he thinks he can get away with anything that he says.

  11. AmusedAmused March 17th, 2015 at 14:03

Won’t somebody please think of the super-rich? Don’t they have feelings too? Aren’t they human beings? Don’t they yearn and ache and shop? Don’t they deserve love? And the right to buy their own personalized government? How long will the world tolerate the Koch brothers being unable to express themselves politically, through money?

  12. OldLefty March 17th, 2015 at 15:00

Former Justice John Paul Stevens proposed a Constitutional amendment:
“Neither the First Amendment nor any provision of this Constitution shall be construed to prohibit the Congress or any state from imposing reasonable limits on the amount of money that candidates for public office, or their supporters, may spend in election campaigns.”

    I would like to see a talk show host or some one who gets speaking fees, (who can quantify how much they make per time talking), go to court and make the case;
‘If money is speech, then speech is money.
MY speech is worth $X.00 per hour.
Therefore, I should be able to pay my bill by speaking to the creditor for a specified time”.
