As has been the case the last three years, Senator Rand Paul won CPAC’s straw poll in 2015. His base (which comes from his retired father, Rep. Ron Paul) always comes out in strong support for their libertarian ideals. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul won the presidential straw poll at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference -…

What I found interesting watching C-SPAN’s broadcast of CPAC announcing their straw poll results is the conservative Washington Times sponsored this straw poll and the head of the newspaper read the poll’s results. Additionally, the Washington Times during the ceremony advocated directly their dislike of Obama and their dreams of replacing him with a conservative. That’s not the end of the newspaper’s hypocrisy. They pick their interns at the CPAC conservative love-fest.

The obvious irony here is all the right-wingers filling their diapers on the ‘liberal media.’ Meanwhile, a leading conservative newspaper with personalities constantly appearing on ‘fair and balanced’ Fox News has a symbiotic relationship with CPAC, one of the most conservative political gatherings of the year.

Does the ‘liberal media’ which is supposed to be in the tank for Obama and all things liberal bother to educate their audience over this blatant hypocrisy and bias? I think I hear the crickets chirping.

This is not hypocritical of the Times. It fits right in with their entire history. They are as “fair and balanced” as Fox Not News. They are not taken seriously as a newspaper. If you compare the comments section on their website for any story with that of the Wash Post, you’ll see what I mean. The Post has a mix of opinions from both sides. The Times comments read like those on Breitbart. Their readership is a fraction of the Post, even in a world where fewer people read any newspaper. They get almost no advertising. A couple of times a week they run a paid wrap-around section for the NRA on the front page.

I guess my frustration is watching the president of the Washington Times stand at the podium at CPAC and take cheap shots at the media being oh-so-liberal and biased. Naturally, he does this with a straight face with no sense of irony. Meanwhile, you won’t see any mention of this in the so-called ‘liberal mainstream media.’ They remain silent and take the abuse which only makes such claims seem credible to many.

I just finished watching Fox News’ “Media Buzz” program where Howard Kurtz naval gazes at his paycheck provider pretending it’s producing stellar ‘fair and balanced’ news coverage and only its opinion shows reflect any bias. Which is easily provable baloney. Again, Fox News constantly bashes any media outlet not pimping their conservative propaganda while the rest of the media treats GOP TV… errr… Fox News as a respected news outlet.

All of them have a 100% chance of not wining a national election.

Moral of the story: the CPAC straw poll is a very poor indicator of a potential candidate’s electability.

“Overall, Mitt Romney holds the record of winning more CPAC straw polls than any other individual, with four. Ronald Reagan, Jack Kemp and Rand Paul follow with three consecutive wins each, followed by Ron Paul with two wins.”
      – from the Wikipedia page on CPAC.

The big winners of CPAC have just one presidency out of 15 CPAC wins… what’s that, about 7 to 8%? You could probably do as well with the Magic 8-ball.
