Ron Paul: Internet, RIP?

Posted by | February 27, 2015 10:30 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Even though the FCC ruled for net neutrality, Ron Paul believes it’s bad news that they ruled at all.

This means that – without the vote of Congress, the peoples’ branch of government – a federal agency now claims the power to regulate the Internet. I am surprised that even among civil liberties groups, some claim the federal government increasing regulation of the Internet somehow increases our freedom and liberty.

The truth is very different. The adoption of these FCC rules on the Internet represents the largest regulatory power grab in recent history. The FCC’s newly adopted rule takes the most dynamic means of communication and imposes the regulatory structure designed for public utilities. Federal regulation could also open the door to de facto censorship of ideas perceived as threatening to the political class – ideas like the troops should be brought home, the PATRIOT Act should be repealed, military spending and corporate welfare should be cut, and the Federal Reserve should be audited and ended.

This is when you don’t know if Paul doesn’t understand the issue, or if he is just lying for his fans.

Is that why the t-baggers took years to figure out that Colbert was pissing all over them?

              • OldLefty February 27th, 2015 at 13:58

You know, my daughter, said that a lot of conservatives insisted that he was really a conservative.

                • anothertoothpick February 27th, 2015 at 14:07

                  Your daughter was right Lefty.

In fact I have seen “internet arguments” as recently as last week claiming
                  Colbert was a conservative.

That goes a long way to tell you how these conservatives are defending Bill-O-Lie-ly

You folks will rue the day this happened. Just like your health premiums didn’t get cheaper under Obamacare, the internet will get more expensive and worse under Obamanet. We saw what happened with over 50 years of the government controlling the telecom sector, the greatest advancement achieved was push button dialing. This new regulation will stifle innovation and advancement like Mark Cuban says and even the folks at Google are not on board.

    • OldLefty February 27th, 2015 at 13:26

I don’t think you understand the issue.

The big telecoms would have been able to control what you can see on the internet had the FCC not preserved internet freedom.

And ALL content providers, including Apple and Google favored it.

More than 4 million people filed public comments to
the FCC about net neutrality, more than any other issue they’ve handled. Some
of those were trade associations and companies, but the majority of them were
      average people, supporting net neutrality.

Since you clearly have no idea what you are talking about with the ACA, why should we believe any of your latest rant?

The only thing that got more complicated with health insurance was that people who previously had no coverage, now have it.

Contrary to your protestations, what we have is a giant step forward, despite the backward thinking right wingers who would have us governed by the profit concerns of billion dollar corporations. In case you have forgotten, the government invented the internet.

So you don’t think Comcast will figure out another way to screw us?

“without the vote of Congress, the peoples’ branch of government” Because corporations are people too, my friend. And congress belongs to corporations.

  6. truthseeker2436577@yahoo.com February 27th, 2015 at 14:57

I don’t agree with corporations running around charging higher rates and controlling all of the Internet. I prefer net neutrality.
