Republicans Losing Another Shutdown Showdown

Taegan Goddard quoting First Read:

“In our experience, there’s a simple rule to follow to make sense of any shutdown showdown: The side that’s divided usually loses. And Republicans are the ones who are divided in the battle over funding the Department of Homeland Security — over whether or not to include riders overturning Obama’s executive actions on immigration.”

“Playing politics with security is always problematic. But it’s doubly problematic when your party is divided.”

Orange Julius owns this one…he’ll be lucky if they don’t vote for a new Speaker when this is over.

so Home Land Security dries up on the 27th,, BiBi come on the 3rd, hoping he brings all his security and pays for it.
It`s not like a big deal, as Israel is not a firestorm country, and has very few friends.

Besides if the administration is doing such a great job of keeping us safe (which it is by the way) it should be able to handle this little speed bump.

    snarky maybe.

The “party of personal responsibility” is truly a wonder to behold.

Remember, this is the crew which has insisted for six years that discussing the very real mistakes of the previous administration is a cop out to enable President Obama to avoid taking responsibility for what happens on his watch. The President must be responsible for everything that happens on his watch. That is what the GOP has repeatedly told us. Except of course for the bin Laden mission where the President took too much credit.

But over on Capitol Hill, when they controlled the House of Representatives, the shutdown of the entire government was the fault of the Democratic party. Veterans who were unable to visit memorials should blame only the Democratic party. Can’t hold Republicans responsible for what happens on their Congressional watch. No sirree.

Next week, we face the possibility that the Dept of Homeland Security will shut down. This time, Republicans hold the House of Representatives and the United States Senate. But if DHS shuts down, it will all be the fault of the Democratic party. Remember we just can’t have Republicans being held responsible for what happens on their Congressional watch. Not even when the control all of Congress.

Now if any of this surprises you, please consider this. When the discussion turns to the events of 9/11/2001, any upstanding right wing partisan will clearly explain how that was primarily President Clinton’s fault. That would be the same President Clinton who left office 8 months before the attack. Remember boys and girls, under no circumstances can Republicans be held responsible for what happens on their watch in any branch of the federal government.

When the discussion turns to Iraq, what do we hear? But, but, but Democrats voted for it too! Yes along with President Bush, and all except about 7 Republicans, a minority of the Democratic party was stupid enough to follow the beat of the neo con war drums. So you see, President Bush cannot be blamed for that either since some Democrats voted for the war. Never mind that the majority of Democrats did not.

The right wing talking point sheets for next week are already being emailed to the field. If DHS shuts down and we suffer a terror attack, or even more likely we have a natural disaster requiring FEMA (a DHS agency) support, any lack of ability to respond will all be the fault of the Democrats in a Congress where both Houses are under GOP control

    Anybody see a pattern?

“But, but, but Democrats voted for it too!”
YA, the Democrats were stupid enough to believe the Republican President when he told that bold faced lie about WMDs.

THANK YOU! And don’t forget it wasn’t JUST Shrub, his cabel of professional liars & propagandistas including (but not limited to) Darth Cheney, Condi, Tenet, Rumsweird, Bremer, Wolfowitz, and even Powell (although he get’s a bit of a pass since I think he too was misled) consistently and to this day stand by their absolute abuse of the facts, and can in fact be blamed for the resultant instability and rise of ISIL in the region… our tax dollars at work!

Interesting definition of losing, We lost the last one and took back the senate

    • arc99 February 16th, 2015 at 11:03

The popular vote for the Presidency in the last 5 out of 6 elections.

That is the definition of losing and is also what has happened with the GOP.

When you ask America (most of it and not just 1/3 of it as was the case in Nov 2014), the people prefer Democrats.

    • NW10 February 16th, 2015 at 11:58

Yet you’ve got Republicans STILL blaming Democrats, even though Republicans have the majority.

    • Mike February 16th, 2015 at 12:26

OK, pass a bill…see, that’s the definition of a loser.

      • fahvel February 17th, 2015 at 03:01

not pass one – propose one that truly benefits the american people.

        • Mike February 17th, 2015 at 09:56

          You’re asking for the impossible.

Mitch McConnell already sent the legislation back to the House, where Orange Julius will ultimately cave and put a clean bill up to a vote that will pass.

    • Denise February 16th, 2015 at 14:31

They caused the last shutdown, yet won re-election. This tells me the majority of gop voters, predominantly white, like this sort of think and think it’s ok, or else, why keep re-election them to cost the economy $$–?

    • tracey marie February 16th, 2015 at 20:45

Not really, the new elected are mainly rwnj and teabaggs, the Dems sat home, less then 30% of eligible voters voted. Shame on the center and the left for sitting it out

The Republicans fanagled themselves into controlling the House and Senate and still all they can do is the same losing manipulative tactics refusing to compromise and instead feigning victims lying about their failed attempt at a power grab thinking that the majority of Americans think like lie loving tea party birther racists. We don’t.
