Revenge! Pakistan To Execute 500 Militants Following School Massacre

After the gruesome mass murder of 126 school children by the Taliban, Pakistan has re instituted the death penalty and plans to kill 500 convicted terrorists as payback.

After the deadliest terror attack in Pakistani history, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ended the six-year moratorium on the death penalty, reinstating it for terrorism-related cases. “Interior ministry has finalized the cases of 500 convicts who have exhausted all the appeals, their mercy petitions have been turned down by the president and their executions will take place in coming weeks,” a senior government official told AFP on condition of anonymity. A second official confirmed the information.

Not everyone is pleased by the decision. Capital punishment has not been widely used in Pakistan and some believe it’s reintroduction at this time is a mistake.

Adding to an outcry by rights groups, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein on Monday called on Pakistan to re-impose its moratorium on the death penalty. “The crime rate, historically, is not lowered by the imposition of capital punishment,” he said, calling the resumption of executions “very unfortunate”. Pakistan began its de facto moratorium on civilian executions in 2008, but hanging remains on the statute books and judges continue to pass death sentences. Before Friday’s resumption, only one person had been executed since 2008 — a soldier convicted by a court-martial and hanged in November 2012.

500 are now to be executed and you think that is civilized behavior?

This will solve nothing. In fact it may make the situation worse. Killing 500 people will not bring back the 126 children who died…

Anyone have a total number on the terrorist population? Curious if this is a decimation or lesser equivalent.
It reminds me of the old joke, “What do you call a busload of lawyers driving over a cliff? A good start.”

Sounds like an excuse to lower prison costs. 500 less inmates to keep imprisoned for life.

In the US that would be a small drop in a very large bucket.

It is the way things are done in that part of the world. Grudges are never forgiven nor forgotten, they are settled.
Vengeance is the law they live by.

My guess is that Pakistani prison system expenditure per capita is pennies per month per head.

This will only invite reprisals and escalate the violence.

    • amongoose December 24th, 2014 at 02:22

How will this cause reprisals? This type of thing is done by them ever single day.
And it has been standard operating procedure for over a thousand years.

And I wonder why the bin Ladens where the only people allowed to fly while the entire US was declared a “No fly zone” right after 9/11?

And I wonder why dubya was never able to find his family friend Osama?
