Pope Says Won’t Be Around In 10 Years

Pope Francis greeted the National Olympic Committee who is bidding for Rome to host the 2024 Olympics, but he says he won’t be there.

Dear friends, best wishes for Rome’s bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games,” he said. “I will not be there. May the Lord bless all of you and your families.”

It was not the first time the pope, who turned 78 on Wednesday, has hinted he does not think he will last very long at the helm of the Catholic Church.

On his way back from South Korea in August he lightheartedly remarked to reporters that he may have only two or three years left to live.

Responding to a question about how he deals with his astonishing global popularity, he replied: “I try to think of my sins, my mistakes, not to become proud. Because I know this will last a short time, two or three years, and then I’ll be off to the house of the Father”.

He certainly doesn’t seem like a pessimist in other areas.

Recognizing the imminence of one’s own death is not necessarily pessimism. Some embrace it with gusto and allow it to motivate them during the time they have left.

He’s 78, reaching 88 doesn’t seem unreasonable, especially with the care he’s likely to receive. It just seems contrary to his positive attitude on other subjects.

Social Security insists I’ll live to 97. Don’t see it myself, but this guy has the best of healthcare, and unless he’s poisoned by some desperate Cardinal, he could make it.

Well, 88 is a bit of a stretch to be hosting anything I guess. He seems like a really nice guy and it is only the really evil ones who seem to live forever so he probably has a point.

I have thought the same thing, a food taster might be in order.

I think you are right…the conservatives can’t stand the light of day nor the joy of life

That is why I never could understand why they picked the Jesus character for their poster boy, they hate everything about him, from the color of his skin to the fact that he was homeless and wandered around helping poor people.
