Limbaugh: Harassing Women On The Street Is Just ‘Men Being Polite’

Posted by | October 30, 2014 17:19 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

Rush Limbaugh wants to know just “what really is the big deal here” about the woman in the viral video who gets catcalls and propositions as she walks through the streets of Manhattan.

“I was expecting some really boorish, sexist, dangerous, I was expecting some real real rotten conduct by guys and and I didn’t see that,” Limbaugh stated, adding that while the video did capture some instances of poor behavior, “most of it, it was men being polite.”

He then went on to defend the behavior of the men shown in the video — “You see a pretty woman, you react to it, ‘hey, looking good today’” — before seizing on its selective editing to point out that most of the men were minorities living in undesirable neighborhoods. “In the interest of accuracy, ladies and gentlemen the majority of men that are portrayed in this video are African American and Hispanic and I thought we were supposed to celebrate diversity,” he said. “Most of them are African American and or Hispanic.”

In fact, several commentators have criticized Hollaback, the anti-street harassment organization behind the clip, and the marketing agency Rob Bliss Creative for only showing minority men. Hollaback has responded to the accusations by expressing its “regret” for “the unintended racial bias in the editing of the video that over represents men of color.” “It is our hope and intention that this video will be the start of a series to demonstrate that the type of harassment we’re concerned about is directed toward women of all races and ethnicities and conducted by an equally diverse population of men,” the group said.

If she doesn’t want any attention maybe she should wear a burqua.

    • tiredoftea October 30th, 2014 at 17:32

No, that wouldn’t work, he’d whine about that, too.

What–on new ways to harass women? I wouldn’t put it past them.

    • arc99 October 30th, 2014 at 18:45

or maybe men should familiarize themselves with the concepts of self control and common courtesy. or are those basic niceties completely alien to the right wing mindset?

of course, if a woman did wear a burqa, folks like you would condemn her for not dressing like a real American and demand to know if she was a terrorist sympathizer.

Right, someone wearing a burqua would be harassed too, the problem is the asses harassing her.

        • M D Reese October 30th, 2014 at 21:36

Women will be harassed, period, stop.

It’s being polite? Misogyny is this asshat’s religion, seriously. Not surprising at all that he’d make such a claim, because we all know that he had 3 prior successful marriages.

Rusty isn’t ever polite. He universally proves himself to be the dumbest, lowest, misogynist racist pig on Earth and likely in the known universe. ‘Rusty failed everything during his one semester at college, even ballroom dancing’-Mother of Limbaugh.

very good, you seem to be on your game today.

            • M D Reese October 31st, 2014 at 16:50

Really? I’m feeling kinda so-so, and I’m not doing much just as slowly as I possibly can. I should be outside planting my garlic, but we’ve had about 5 inches of rain in the last few days and I just don’t feel like it! I think I’ll eat chocolate instead.

              • tracey marie October 31st, 2014 at 16:53

Lot’s of rain! I still need to plant garlic but my pepper plants are still producing so it will wait, same as the carrots. I have row cover if it gets to cold

                • M D Reese October 31st, 2014 at 16:56

I’ve got a big pot of carrots that I need to check on–I wasn’t ready at all in the spring, so just tossed some seeds in a 16″ pot. Who knows–might be enough for a carrot cake, if they managed to mature.

                  • tracey marie October 31st, 2014 at 17:00

That will be great. i will also do seeds in some pots I have. I am in the process of potting up in size so I will have plenty of 10″-24″” pots

                    • M D Reese October 31st, 2014 at 17:05

I’m planning on building some smallish boxes out of red cedar for next year. 16″ square and about that deep, with legs. To keep the slugs out, I wrap bare copper wire around the first 4 inches of the legs.

                    • tracey marie October 31st, 2014 at 17:07

That will be nice. Sprikle crushed egg shells on top of your soil, that is a deterient to all soft and hard body insects. It scratches the the hard carapace and makes them die of dehydration and the soft bodies get cut as if it were glass

                    • M D Reese October 31st, 2014 at 17:12

Our slugs scoff at cut glass! Trust me–I was a professional gardener here for many years and I’ve heard all the slug remedies. Stabbing them with a harpoon and flinging them in front of a tour bus is the most effective method that I’ve found. Of course, the ones that survive are really pissed off after that. I never sleep with the window open.

I used to teach gardening workshops for our Parks and Recreation Dept.–I’d tell folks that the most important tool that a gardener can have here is a great sense of humor. As for our slugs, I think that they just freeze in place for the winter, and so they are ready to go first thing in the spring.

                    • tracey marie October 31st, 2014 at 17:25

What’s even funnier is that clams and mussels are a delicacy here, and yet slugs–which are plentiful and easy to catch (just plant a garden and they will come)–are not. I would imagine that you could clean them out with cornmeal for a couple of days, and then filet them and fry them up in batter. Probably tastes just like chicken…

Unintended racial bias, lol, reporter extremist would now like to throw away this survey with only words and cover up the truth, sounds good I’ll go stick my head in a hole and pretend it didn’t happen to, after all the truth hurts. Prime example of an extremist performing a study and she has no clue what the world is about because she lives uptown and those kind of people, same people she defends as a liberal, she never deals with them, she’s usually wearing her full body armor (vehicle) when driving through these places, typical extremist Liberal, they don’t practice what they preach and live a completely different life from the one they’re commenting on but feel they’re qualified sand seem to feel they know whats best for the general population, cumbia. If a guy wanted to be polite, then making judgmental comments about the sexual allure of a complete stranger really isn’t the way to go.
