Koch-Backed Group Sending Out Phony Mailers
The Kochs’ Americans for Prosperity must have decided they need to do some “voter information” in what’s an awfully tight race for governor in Illinois. According to the Daily Kos Elections Outlook, there’s about a 4-point spread between Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn and Republican Bruce Rauner. Enter AFP to try to create a little chaos in the election. And like in North Carolina, where they sent hundreds of thousands of fraudulent mailers, they’re upsetting people by sending mailers to their dead loved ones.
The phony mailers tell people they have to register to vote.
Click here for reuse options!All over the state, people have been calling their county clerks to find out if they really do have to re-register, because all of the mailings from AFP are meant to look like they’re coming from elections officials. They’re also wondering why their dead relatives are getting these letters, because they’re going to a lot of deceased people. Which means elections officials are having to make a lot of apologies, even though they’re not responsible for the confusion. Says Shelby County Clerk Jessica Fox, “[w]e would never do anything, for lack of a better term, as tacky as to open up these old wounds.”

I would think you would be able to charge them with mail fraud.

I agree. And how bout a fine and/or jail time for every single stinking mailer that they sent out. I’m really sick of these bastards getting away with this kind of crap. I hope they get the same judge that Michael Dunn got.

first thing under consumer help is Mail Fraud. if all the cuts and dismantling of the USPS have not hurt there ability to do they`er jobs.

Let’s hope they try to bring some action against them, but Koch money can buy a lot of very clever lawyers, and a lot of the lawyers working for us have been known to make mistakes on this kind of thing. So don’t get your hopes up.

The other thing that’s happening with political flyers coming through the mail is that Republican candidates are leaving off the Republican affiliation. I’ve gotten three flyers within the last week, each one had the candidates name, his position on various issues, the vote for me plug, but no where within the flyer, either front or back, could one find the word “Republican.” And yes, I’ve doubled checked each one’s political registration. All are registered Republicans. Interesting, ain’t it?

We are getting what seem to be fake ‘poll’ calls. You think you are participating in a legitimate poll then when you respond by telling the caller you plan to vote for a Democrat you get the ‘But, did you know that (Candidate name) favors (opposes) such and such? Start asking who they are and the line goes dead.
