The New York City Health Department wants to know the circumstances that led to Joan Rivers’ cardiac arrest when she was undergoing an outpatient procedure.

Spokesman James O’Hare said Thursday that the department is looking into “the whole matter.” He declined to discuss specifics.

The 81-year-old comic and red carpet commentator was hospitalized last week after going into cardiac arrest at a doctor’s office.

Her family said Wednesday that Rivers has been moved from intensive care at Mount Sinai Hospital into a private room, where she was “being kept comfortable.”

I am sad that she has died under these circumstances. I am puzzled at why she would have such a procedure done at an outpatient clinic, instead of a hospital with an emergency staff at the ready. It’s a ‘given’ that the DOH would investigate a clinic where an emergency developed and led to a death. It’s not because she was famous, it’s what they do. I worked at Mt. Sinai for two years as a nurse administrator, and they don’t fool around with anybody tasked with life and death issues.

Alot of procedures/surgeries, today, are done in out-patient clinics. I would just prefer, that if anything is going to be done to my throat. That I be in the hospital.

Sounds like, that took her off the ventilator and let her go; at her own pace.
    RIP-Joan.

And here we go with blame the clinic time. Look, the woman was 81 and she had to go sometime and this was her fate. Its a wonder she made it through all those plastic surgeries without kicking the bucket.

This is standard operating procedure. No need to get concerned until the NYDH releases its findings.
