Trayvon Martin’s Dad Discusses The Character Assassination Of Michael Brown

Posted by | August 17, 2014 19:30 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Trayvon Martin’s father appeared on MSNBC’s Weekend with Alex Witt and discussed the character assassination taking place with Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager gunned down by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

.Tracy Martin offered support to the parents of Michael Brown saying,  “The country stands behind them and their loss.”

Martin spoke of the stereotyping of African Americans and said that we need to “break the stigma.”

“In America we have a real issue discussing race”, he said.

Witt went on to discuss the commonality both sets of parents share in that their deceased son’s character was and is attacked.

“Michael Brown’s parents have seen their son’s character questioned and tarnished,” she said. “Particularly with the alleged robbery surveillance video that even the governor says should not have been released. You too, saw your son’s character attacked. How does that weigh on a parent during what has got to be the worst time in your life?”

“It certainly has wear and tear on a parent, just seeing the assassination of your child’s character,” Martin said. “At the end of the day, you ask yourself as a parent, in my case, in our case, I sat back and said, Is my son on trial, or is his killer on trial? And I’m seeing the same elements in this case.”

Martin said in reference to the Brown family. “Don’t let anyone assassinate the character your son’s character. They have to stand up for their son. They have up for justice. We’re with them 110 percent. Protests are going, protests are needed, but peaceful protests.”

Unfortunately, some in the media are trying to assassinate Michael Brown’s character due to the release of the surveillance footage by the Ferguson police department after they were explicitly asked not to release it. But Michael is dead so he can’t defend himself and since he’s being judged for stealing $49 worth of cigars – certainly a crime not worthy of the death penalty – then we need to look at the shooter, who fired upon the teenager multiple times even though his hands were in the air.

Let’s be fu**ing clear about Michael Brown:

It doesn’t matter if he was the biggest drug dealer in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

It doesn’t matter if he was the baddest gangsta in the Ferguson ‘hood.

It doesn’t matter if he was the biggest pimp in the state.

It doesn’t matter if he had committed robberies or purse snatchings.

It doesn’t matter how many gang signs he flashed with his hands.

It doesn’t matter if he said, “F**k tha police” every chance he got.

It doesn’t matter if he flipped off cops or grabbed his junk while looking at them.

None of that justifies being gunned down by a police officer. None of it.

Of course, Michael Brown wasn’t any of the above.

What does matter is what the cop did and what the cops have done and will do. You can bet that the officer who shot Brown didn’t ask if he was a future college student. He was just another n***er, indistinguishable from the n***ers around him, and that was enough.

So it’s bad to judge all people by the color of their skin, because that’s racism. But it’s totally acceptable to judge cops all the same by the actions of a few bad ones. You are inside this cop’s mind, head, and understand him completely and are entirely sure he is racist and uses terms like “ni*ger”? Way to completely be a huge hypocrite. You don’t want people judging other shy the color of their skin or what other people of the same color have done before him (and in this case, what MB DID do which was assault someone and rob a store). But you want to be totally free to judge all cops on the actions of a few despite the cop’s record or personal outlook on anything, of which you don’t know.

Okay, got it. Great logic buddy.

And the point of Rude Pundit’s post goes over your head. Le sigh.

You’re totally forget the details of the case. Brown’s hand were in the air. The Police officer’s job is not to be Judge, jury and executioner.

Careful what you say. It could be your kid, or someone you know next. The militarization of the police force in this country has desensitized them.

You’re sounding kind of racist there, you know. It looks really bad.

Where’s the video of his hands being up? Best reports so far, corroborated by the latest autopsy, indicate he was shot while charging the police car.

You missed the point and the fact that “Hands up, Don’t Shoot” has big meaning in this situation. Note that a white man, who claim sovereign citizen status, went bonzo setting fire to trash bins, then holing up with an assault rifle and started firing on police. A SWAT team arrives and he finally gives up without one shot ever having been fired by the authorities.

Yet “hands up, don’t shoot” means something else when it’s an unarmed black man.

Tracy Martin makes a great point about character assignation. This story and the events in Ferguson, MO. are breaking my heart beyond measure. I found this image on Twitter and stole it. This may be the most telling image I’ve seen during protests in there. I wish I could hug this woman.

” Is my son on trial, or is his killer on trial?”
This. George Zimmerman was never on trial. We always knew what he did. Trayvon Martin was on trial, and the jury found he deserved to die.

And now we don’t have the Darren Wilson trial, we have the MIke Brown trial, with the jury looking for whatever he did that made him deserve to die.

Instead of the “black kid banging white guy’s head against a concrete sidewalk,” we now have “he robbed a store, and assaulted the owner, so he wasn’t in the right mind state and he assaulted the cop and tried to grab his gun.”

Brown did a fine job of demonstrating his character. The convenience store videos did it for him. Keep on painting him as a saint. I’m sure it will help the clicks…
