Governor Declares State Of Emergency And Curfew

Posted by | August 16, 2014 17:13 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has declared a curfew and state of emergency in Ferguson.

The curfew will run from midnight to 5 a.m., starting tonight.

“This is a test,” Nixon said at a news conference, saying “the eyes of the world” are watching to see how the city handles the aftermath of the Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown.

The announcement comes after community activists had taken to the streets and social media Saturday in hopes of preventing another night of looting and violence in Ferguson, Mo., after at least three business fell victim to a predawn rampage by young men who targeted local stores as others tried desperately to stop them.

If the police had done their job last night a curfew would not be necessary, instead they stood there and watched as looters entered businesses.

In many cases the protesters blocked the looters and stood guard over some after chasing off the looters. The police should of helped but probably wanted the looting to justify a curfew tonight. It is their narrative of putting down the people that they want that is important to the FPD.

Tonight, per local news, shop owners are standing their ground, armed heavily.

What could go wrong? These very local businesses, many owned by local families, have been hit multiple times over the last few days, they ain’t fooling around… somebody is going to get killed, the inter-racial tension is palpable, all the way out here in Portland, Oregon.
Gov. Nixon had little choice as the true social and economic base of Ferguson reared its ugly head and let out a mighty roar, “Hands-up, Don’t Shoot,” that’s reverberating all over America and world. But he did not go far enough and relieve Ferguson PD from active duty. At least for the time-being.

Except the business owners I saw being interviewed were black, so the looting isn’t an interracial issue. It’s one of opportunism.

There will always be thugs and criminals who seek to exploit social problems for their own nefarious ends.

    • edmeyer_able August 16th, 2014 at 19:17

The Bundy ranch would be a good example of that.

      • R.J. Carter August 16th, 2014 at 20:04

Did Bundy own his ranch where the people were congregated? Or were they congregated outside his private property?

        • edmeyer_able August 16th, 2014 at 20:10

Not sure the point of your question but the thug I’m referring to is Bundy and I do believe they demonstrated both on and off his property.

        • m2old4bs August 17th, 2014 at 02:31

Considering they were stopping people on the local streets and checking their IDs, I would say they were active outside of his property as well.

Welcome to the New JIm Crow! Add cops and politicians to your list and we have both sides of the same coin.

Curfews? When government behaves badly you can always count on Liberals, (Gov. Nixon), to curtail the civil rights of the oppressed

    • greenfloyd August 17th, 2014 at 02:13

The problem these days is how we define “Liberals?” It seems the letter after their name is no longer a reliable way to tell. I haven’t seen any high-profile Democrat stand up lately and declare, “I’m a Liberal, and proud of it!”
The Brown/Ferguson Eruption seems to have caught the entire political establishment with their pants down, and sunscreen on…how inconvenient!
