Maliki Agrees To Resign

Posted by | August 14, 2014 18:52 | Filed under: Top Stories War & Peace

Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has agreed to step down, avoiding a possible further crisis.

While the country is not at peace, Mr. Maliki’s decision appeared to pave the way for the first truly peaceful transition of power, based on democratic elections and without the guiding hand of American military forces, in modern Iraq’s history.

In stepping aside, Mr. Maliki agreed to end his legal challenge to the nomination of his replacement, Haider al-Abadi, a member of Mr. Maliki’s own Shiite Islamist Dawa Party, who was chosen Monday by Iraq’s president.

There will be a 30 day transition period, during which it is believed Abadi will form a more inclusive government.

I wonder what made him change his mind, hmmm? Hopefully some real constructive progress can begin now.

I am willing to bet a lot of American money was involved in helping him make this decision.

Just another Obama failure, maybe he can take a position as head of Ferguson PD and restore order, I understand he’s good at bringing diversity to organizations…../s

Blaming the current mess in Iraq on President Obama is just like blaming the Gulf War on President Bill Clinton. The problems arising in Iraq right now predate Obama, and even to a certain extent, GWB. The civil war in Iraq was in the making for quite some time, even under Saddam, but Saddam prevented it from happening. Thanks to GWB foolishly invading and removing the secular dictator who was Saddam Hussein, Obama now has had to deal with the ISIS rebels. Your comment illustrates you’re not capable of thinking beyond repeating what you see on Faux News, and hear from the right wing talking heads.

President Obama got all Syria’s chemical weapons of mass destruction destroyed without a shot fired and now suddenly the belligerent religious zealot Maliki suddenly steps down. Now that’s some strong-arm diplomacy I can get behind.
And it’s 1000% better than the knee jerk bluster of the idiots on the delusional right wing who can’t see any further than sending our kids to die and our tax money to the pentagon..

Well, you know, “it’s the without a shot fired” that’s the problem! What use is this huge military if we’re not going to use it?

Any bets that Maliki was granted “A full Pardon” against all crimes, just as Nixon received by unelected POTUS Ford’38? Iraqi PM al-Maliki forfeited his office by his inability to form a coalition government by the legal deadline of last week!

And what do we know about the new guy? The old “Frying Pan into the fire” routine? Can we afford him?

    • tiredoftea August 14th, 2014 at 23:46

We know that he was elected by Iraqi’s. Why should they be held to higher standards than the dolts we vote for?
