Supreme Court’s Autumn Term Opens With Quick Rulings
- Sorry, Virginia AG (and goober-natorial candidate) Ken Cuccinelli: the court won’t hear an appeal of a lower court ruling striking down Virginia’s anti-sodomy law you supported!
- The court also smacked down
homicidal drug dealerstobacco companies, rejecting an appeal of a Florida ruling that may help thousands of smokers sue cigarette makers over smoking-related illnesses. - Conspicuous in its absence from the court’s schedule are a potentially wide-ranging legal review of the Obama administration’s first wave of regulations aimed at tackling climate change. Sorry, Charlie and David, you’ll just have to wait.
But the case everyone is watching hits the court today: a lawsuit that seeks to roll back limits on political contributions directly to candidates and political parties. Stay tuned.
