You know what passes for good government in Arizona? The humiliation of anonymous taxpayers. Good, good stuff: gut-busting internetz courtesy county booking photos and a big, macho, publicity whore like Republican icon Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Who doesn’t want to better their local governments by turning them into reality shows?

Gosh, if only Joe could lock people into stockades and dunk tanks bolted fast in the public square. If only he could sell rotting turnips and balloons full of shaving cream to passers-by . .

. . Sheriff Joe is trying out a new online program he calls his “Mug Shot of the Day Contest.” This is apparently an attempt to extend his “Prisoner Humiliation Program” to those who are initially being booked into his county jail . .

By making a mockery of the online pictures, Sheriff Joe is taking this to an even higher level of questionable legality.

What Joe fails to realize is that, at the time that the mug shot is taken, the photographed person is not guilty of anything.

Joe only posts mugshots of people booked in the last three days, so every face you see is of a person still innocent of whatever crime they may be eventually charged with. But there sure must be some awful people out there, so who gives a damn? If they didn’t deserve it, they wouldn’t have gotten arrested.

For example, among Sheriff Joe’s nasty criminals from Phoenix society, there’s this guy:

He’s a pot bust. And this dude:

Another pot bust. And this woman:

Another pot bust.

That’s funny. Arizona is entertaining America by using its citizens for punchlines.
